What color Ninja 250r should i get. What would make me more visible to other cars?

You want the truth -- colors don't squat. It is *YOU* job to avoid the cages. You are the one who will be hurt. If *you* expects someone to see you -- you eventually WILL be hit.

Paint it white with saddle bags. A white benie helmet and reflective sunglasses. Studys have shown that if the cager thinks you are a cop it will regester as a threat and they will see you. Otherwise just pick a Color you like . It will not matter .

Look, Im all for riding defensively, but this is just plain junk.

Bright colors make a HUGE difference in visibility, they always have, and they always will. Thats why road crews wear bright colors. Thats why aircraft ground crews wear bright colors. Thats why prisoners wear bright colors.

A recent study, published in the British Medical Journal offers the following conclusions:
•"Compared with wearing a black helmet, use of a white helmet was associated with a 24% lower risk ... We found similar associations for red and a combined group of yellow and orange helmets..."
•"Drivers wearing reflective or fluorescent clothing had a 37% lower risk of crash related injury than those who were not wearing such materials...the protective association seemed to increase with falling light levels..." :

Anything you can do to help the cagers see you is a good idea. I wear a bright yellow helmet, and a bright yellow jacket on a bright green bike. I can tell you from experience they definitely see me much sooner with this setup than they do when Im wearing all black on a black bike.

So if you want to run down the road in the middle of the night wearing all black on a black bike with your headlights off, and rely on "You to avoid the cagers" you go right ahead.

If it was legal, Id fire a road flare at every intersection.

I liked yellow. My previous Ninja 250 was the bright yellow and several other people stated it was definitely noticeable. I wore a yellow jacket and pants with built in reflective lines, and I put reflective tape on my helmet and backpack. I Rode it early in the morning when it was still dark out and then in the early evening when it was still light out.

Now I have the nice bright red Ninja 250, with a red jacket with same reflective lines and still have reflective tape on helmet and backpack. Not as noticeable from a distance as the yellow but when it is sitting next to a blue, or black, or purple bike it definitely stands out. I also park with a white bike and the white is quite noticeable as well.

As usual, my opinion. But go out and as your driving/riding along - what do you notice a lot quicker...?

I went with the 2011 SE because it was white. I figure it can't hurt; definitely more visible than the regular black.

Red seems to get lots of attention. This seems to be a double edged sword, since people seem to quickly see me, but instantly think I want to race with them. I think Red increases visibility, but also forces you into situations where you have to resist the urge to speed.

If it was legal, how far do you think you can go before declaring bankcruptcy?

I have ridden since 2005 all black with a black or dark blue bike. I ride year round and commute to and from work I have had a couple close calls .
A good friend bought a big yellow cruser bright colored full leather riding suiet and bright yellow helmet he took all the MSF course stuff . He was a very slow rider.
He was killed by a van after six months on the bike. Color means nothing

Ok, maybe not every intersection....but at least at the left turning cagers that are "thinkin bout it". Surplus naval distress flares would work great, perticularly the ones that dump 100,000sq ft of orange smoke.

Oh, and can we please have them whistle too...

The simple fact of the matter is that color does improve visibility, perticularly Bright vivid colors. Im not saying wear neon orange and drive like a maniac expecting the color to save you. But everything you can do to get them to notice you is a good thing.

I guess now all the "loud pipes dont save lives" folks have a new topic to whine about. I expect this thread to end up with a bunch of guys all crying for the cessation of bright colors cause it doesnt do anything, and it assaults their eyes.

By the way...the one post wonder that started this thread is probably a troll anyway.

What the heck? Was this supposed to make sense?

The topic line sounded like someone was asking a question, looking for input and opinion. But the body of the post reads like an angry rant.

And the poster's status tag shows this was his first-ever post here on Ninjette.org

I don't know what to make of this.

Bright colors and reflective material make a huge difference at night. I went out to eat with my girlfriend last night. On our way, we were behind a dark sport bike with black helmet and dark clothing for a while. Save for his single rear light, the biker completely blended in with the traffic.

As for the OP,

It's a good idea to ride defensively with the assumption that you are invisible to everyone else, but that doesn't mean color and material don't help or that it's a good idea to ride at night with no actual visibility to others. Also just because it's the internet, it doesn't mean there is no decorum. This is a no way to start a thread.

Its not all about who can see your pretty colors, Its all about who is actually paying attention and not playing with themselves, a phone, or anything in their cage.

Is greg737 functionally literate?

You want the truth - he isn't, otherwise he would have recognized that answering one's own question is a common method in didactics and we wouldn't have to suffer this 'contratribution':

Hans - it's challenging to portray oneself as the beacon of rationality, if someone has already seen your turbocharging thread.

As for this thread, the OP hasn't been back since his first post so I wouldn't worry terribly about folks trying to get any points across to them.

If only the same could be said for Hans (a.k.a. Lowspeed Lowside).

As Alex was hinting, if you haven't been here: http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=71603 then you should fasten your seatbelt and take a (really weird) ride.

Couldnt the same analogy could be used for driving in general? You could be the best driver out there or the most defensive but it wont help when some random **** happens like a broadside from someone running a red light?

Colour doesn't really matter because accident occurs even if your brightly seen. What will make you more visible to other cars are; learn to lane position and never ride in the blind spot etc... Never ride in the middle of the lane incase of the oil slick and learn to do ebraking and get use to your back wheel lifting up so when you really do need to do e-stop you won't freak out when your back wheel comes off the ground.
Those two things have saved my skin many times and developing your skill in those area is the difference between limbless/dead or staying alive.
The more you practice after a while they'll come naturally to you as well.
Safe and fun riding.

color doesn't matter

I ride with my high beams on.. even at night, if i'm blinding the car ahead.. oh well! I switched from a black leather jacket to my current alpinestars red/white/black jacket and also red/white/black suomy helmet. I think light colored gear is easy to see than all black.
If i'm riding down a road and see a car waiting to turn left from a side street i slow down a bit, cover the brake and watch to see if the person is looking at me. So far so good for me.. knock on wood

Get a black one they are faster so it will help you avoid a crash. Also try get some racing stripes on there. Each racing stripe adds like 5hp.

Indeed. Cops love red too! Red is for sure not stealth.

Speaking of stealth, when I was younger I was nearly ran over by a black bike with a rider wearing all black gear. It was nearly 10pm while crossing the street, never saw it coming and with all the other traffic, didn't hear it either.
