Connecting Things Directly to the Battery vs. Pigtailing Off Other Things

Alright, so I'm creating a roadmap of sorts for the mods I want to do over the summer, and one of them is replacing the stock horn with a Freeway Blaster along with its own relay.

I read through the wiki how-to and it says to connect the relay and its fuse straight to the battery, but I already have my Trail Tech Vapor connected directly to the battery and I really don't want to keep connecting more and more things directly to the battery for cleanliness-sake (having all those wires would bug me)

With that said, is there a way I can create a pigtail off of any of the lights at the front of the bike and connect the horn/relay to that? Or maybe connect it to the accessory plugs? Could I do this with my Trail Tech Vapor as well?

I guess it doesn't really matter what the specific method would be, just as long as I can keep the battery free from wires and only have the main positive and negative connections on it.

Any tips would be appreciated!

You could install an auxiliary fuse box to the battery and run the accessories off of that.

So got to keep in mind the amperage draw each component will draw and make sure to fuse each parallel connection. Also keep in mind the gauge of the main wire each of these connections will be using to connect to the battery cause it will have the full sum of the currents from each of the components.

I would recommend using a fuse box. I use a PDM60 which is programmable but pricey. There are also cheaper options out there as well.

No, because whatever factory wire you tap into for "trunk" wire will be overwhelmed by additional circuit's draw and will blow its fuse. You want to run new FAT cable from the battery +12 terminal to split off to your new circuits. There are many ways to accomplish this.

1. For just 2-4 additional circuits, it's simpler to have just +12v distribution block. Think of it as additional +12v battery terminal. Use as short ground to chassis as possible. For new horn, you can use mounting bolt for ground. Use inline fuses on +12v line for each circuit.

2. If you need more than 5 new circuits, it'll be cleaner to install additional fusebox

In both these cases, you'll want an inline fuse between battery +12 terminal and new distribution/fuse box. Size fuse for total power consumption x2.. say 30amps. Then use necessary 8 or 6ga wire needed to reach block.
