The Last Jedi

The Last Jedi opens on December 15th and I cant wait. Luckily in this small little town you don’t have to wait and camp out to get a ticket.

My nephew and his dad are total Star Wars geeks! My sister-in-law reserved 55-seat dining theatre for this showing!

Just from seeing the trailers on tv and on YouTube it looks like The Last Jedi is going to be better than Rogue One and The Force Awakens combined!

Awesome! I kinda lost interest a while ago when it became a kid's series. Rogue One was the 1st one I really enjoyed in a long time!

Mixed feelings. As a Star Wars fan I'm excited by the movie, but I'm also getting over-saturated by all of the TV advertisements for non-Star Wars stuff using Star Wars theme music, etc.

I agree, it has become over commercialized! As if me liking Star Wars is going to make me buy one vehicle over another?????

I saw it again last night. I was reminded of the improbabilities of the space ship movements. I liked seeing Carrie Fischer one last time though.

I saw it on the Saturday after the Friday opening. Thought I was going to have to wait until the next weekend because I couldn't find enough seats in any showing for my family.

Then I found some seats at a 10am show on Saturday, so we went. On our tickets (from Marcus Theaters) we noticed a "-RMN" but didn't know what that was so we just went.

During this movie there was 2 mentally handicapped children seated in front of us and they were yelling, moaning and grunting for the whole movie. On top of that they left the lights on in the theater, causing the picture to be washed out. I was getting seriously pissed. I didn't complain though.

After the movie we just though the whole event was kinda strange. I looked up what RMN meant at Marcus Theaters. It was something called "Real Movie Needs". Turns out it was a special showing meant for handicapped kids with autism, downs syndrome, and even tourettes syndrome, and the lights are left on so they don't get scared.

Oh, c'mon. SF movies blow the realism bit in all sorts of ways on a routine basis. Even if you accept conceits like FTL travel, force fields/beams and artificial gravity, you're still left with needing to portray the environment in a realistic way. And it's almost never done.

1) There is no sound in space.
2) You can't see a laser unless it passes through something (gas or dust cloud)
3) There is no sound in space.
4) Spaceships do not fly like airplanes.
5) There is no sound in space.
6) Streamlining is pointless in a vacuum.
7) There is no sound in space.
8) Distance causes a time lag in communications.
9) There is no sound in space.
10) Newton's three laws of motion always apply. Just sayin'.
11) There is no sound in space.
12) At realistic encounter distances, ships will be too far from one another to actually see clearly with the naked eye.
13) There is no sound in space....

You get the idea.

For a realistic SF movie, see 2001: A Space Odyssey. Artificial gravity produced in a realistic way (via centrifugal force), no sound in a vacuum, spacecraft actually designed with zero-G in mind, isolation caused by interplanetary distances, etc.

Yep. Exactly. Most movies employ experts on these things, but then they completely ignore them. ("Gravity" was egregious on a couple of things)

I must point out that the room is full of gas.

Statement holds. In a vacuum, it'd be invisible.

Also depends on the frequency... the beam has to be in the visible range to be seen at all, even if it does pass through a medium of some sort.

Might not be sound in space, but there’s certainly sounds in your ship. And when you get hit with stuff, your ship will definitely make a sound.

And those aren’t lasers they’re firing at each other. Definitely slower than light, some sort of particle weapon? In which case the energy of the particles would emit light.

Also space is not a complete vacuum. There’s enough matter in gaseous form that heat generated at high-velocities for spacecraft is a real concern.

All this has been known since the ‘60s.

Again I have to state that nothing is impossible for the Force. Just ask Yoda - “size matters not. The Force is a powerful alley”. Or Darth Vader - The power of the Death Star is insignificant compared to the power of the Force.

Also let’s remember that it’s Sci-Fi “Science Fiction”. Just as Dick Tracey talking into his watch was pure fantasy at the time yet now is reality.
