Rear tire width

I'm in the process of gathering parts for a steetfighter conversion and I want to stick a super fat tire in the back mainly just for looks. What's the widest I can go without needing to do fabrication or something?

well a 130/90-16 Bridgestone BT45 is more like 138 or so and doesn't have a ton of clearance on the swingarm

You might be able to stuff a 150 in there if you scoot the wheel back as far as you can...?

Different brands of tyre have different widths, regardless of what is on the side wall. You need about 5mm clearance to each side of the swingarm as a minimum to allow for tyre flex.

I have a 4x17" rim in the back of mine, its fitted with a BT45 140/70-17 tyre but measured its 149mm wide with no load. I have approx 10mm clearance a side, so could squeeze a 150-160 in there. I measured the original swingarm it has a maximum gap of 180mm where the tyre rim would be.

thanks guys im probably gonna go 140 i guess its not exactly practical to try and make my 250 look like the 600 i cant afford haha

You might have an issue with the tire and the rim. I believe that I read somewhere that the factory wheel was designed for a 120 width tire, and then began to ship with a 130. A 140 might not seat correctly on the rim. Just verify before going to a tire shop to have it mounted.

Right, Bridgestone has a chart somewhere on their site that shows what rim widths their various tire sizes are designed to run on. While correct seating on the rim is not likely to be a problem, excessive wrap would make the tire shape different from what it was designed to be.

The 130/90 BT45 I have on my 250 is plenty big.

They're the same ones I have on mine, except my rear is a 130/90-16. Handling is excellent.

I'll check when I get to work (about to ride out in 20min) I believe it's a 140/80/17 in the rear and a 120/80/17 in the front. I have a new gen though

Edit: it's 140/70/17 and 120/70/17 front.

Wow, I guess I must be used to my 240 on the Diavel as that tire doesn't look 'big' on your bike. I'm dreading being forced to switch out 16 to 17's....still trying for one more massive online search to magically pull up a 16" enduro tire.

Do you have a thread talking about your build? I'd like to know about your muffler and mudguard, too.

Ya I've only ever owned my little ninja so it definitely doesn't look big. I'm to impatient and lazy to do a build thread lol the muffler is from amazon (I'll check my order log and link you the url if you'd like.) The mudguard? Do you mean the plastic tail section that is black? Or the white tire hugger? If it's the latter it can be had off eBay for about 15$. It is a stock cbr 250 chainguard that I painted to go with the fairings.
