Hi! Always wanted to visit India.

Tell me something: Does the average person in India know who Freddie Mercury is?

Of course. Freddie, the lead singer of Queen is one of my favorites. India has a very good rock culture. Almost all the big cities have pubs which play rock music ranging from Pink Floyd, Scorpions, Queen, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Deep Purple, etc.

You're unfortunately wrong bro. I'm surprised you're unaware of Freddie. I guess Delhi (as mentioned in your location) has a lot of pubs which play good rock music.

"In 2006, Time Asia magazine named [Freddie Mercury] as one of the most influential Asian heroes of the past 60 years: The article credited Mercury with having 'duplicated in popular music what other Indians—such as Salman Rushdie and Vikram Seth – have done in literature: taking the coloniser's art form and representing it in a manner richer and more dazzling than many Anglophones thought possible.'."

I grew up having no idea he was Indian/Parsi. I was just wondering if it was like the Aussie's in general not knowing who The Crocodile Hunter was during the height of Steve Irwin's western popularity.

umm...

a mere 10% population of india resides in urban or sub urban areas
and only 2-4 % (or maybe even less)go to these pubs/clubs/discos that you speak about

of those who dont go - not all of them listen to rock music
eg- dads, moms, aunts, uncles, etc -except a few exceptions

looks like most people in india do NOT know who fredie mercury is.

P.S- are you in any way a member of xbhp?
[rant]
of all people (who are into riding)i've met so far (personally or on net)-these xbhpians are into a habit of speaking w/o thinking and think nothing of other people.

I dont go to pubs/bars in the USA either but rock has a lot more exposure than bars alone.
