Unresponsive throttle (2007 Ninja 250)

MY PRECIOUS NINJA!!!

I'll go to warm up my bike like I usually do put it on 3k rpm for 10 seconds then 4k rpm for another ten then I'll roll out. I'll kick it into first gear and it'll work decently well for the first like two stop signs. But after I get to a stop sign and try to roll off my throttle becomes very unresponsive, even if I hold down the clutch halfway and steadily let it gain speed it still doesnt accelerate fast enough. I have to hold the clutch halfway and put a lot of throttle into it before I can even get up to speed otherwise it will just blip for a little bit and then jump up a few thousand rpms.

I had to replace the throttle cable a few weeks back but I couldnt get it to fit right so I modified the cable a bit so it would fit into the spot and I had to take out the closing cable as well due to it not doing it's job after I was done. I rode my bike like that for a few weeks and it still rode fine because of the spring thats fitted under the seat throttle. Not sure if that's what's causing the issue but maybe

What I did do is I replaced the oil filter and put in some seafoam. Figured it was just a dirty ole carburetor. Still does it though. I haven't been able to ride it out to see if the carburetor would clear out because I'm scared the bike will burn out on me. I didn't change that oil filter for about 3k miles I think (shame). I saw somewhere on another forum that it might just be a kink in the air hose (Kinky hose LOL) But I'm still a newb so tell me what to do!

Also the engine runs fine when it's in neutral.

have you checked your spark plugs recently? when was the last time you adjusted the valves?

you probably want the return cable on a street bike... its a safety thing. when you're in a nasty situation and the throttle jams or something sometimes it takes a second or two to realize you need to turn the engine off with the kill switch and clutch it out.

I would check that nothing is clogging the inlet of the air filter box.

If OK there, I would drain the bowls of the carbs:
http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Draining_the_carbs

If that fails, disconnect the fuel hose where it enters the carburetors and clean a tiny mesh filter that may be inside the end of the hose.

While there, open the tank cap, and blow backwards into that hose while the petcock is open and in reserve.

If all the above fails, report back.

It sounds like a carburetor issue, fuel delivery, or fuel contamination(water).

I'm curious on what issues you had replacing the cables? Also check all fuel lines, petcock is in proper working order, and of course vacuum lines have no leaks/holes, etc, tank vent working, all carburetor boots

Is there a fuel filter? Also think about what you've done prior to the event?

Well my oil light is still on but I'm not sure if that's because I haven't run my bike enough.

Still on? For how long?

That's not good. It should go out very quickly after the engine starts. What oil did you use? How did you check the level? Don't ride it if the light stays on.

As far as warm-up, keep the choke set so it idles about 2000 when cold.

Huh? Oil light on is not a good sign for sure, it means you have no oil pressure,as the switch is a low one, about 3~5 psi. is it on only at idle? Or when the RPMs pick up? Are You absolutely sure that the oil filter is installed correctly? Didn't leave an o-ring out or something that simple??:???

Well my oil light will light up when I turn my key and start my bike then it will turn off. Remember I'm not a mechanic so no I don't know what a pressurized valve trinkle is.

Oh yeah the top end of the cable wouldnt fit into the cockpit so we had to cut it and make a hole at the bottom for the cable to sit in.

Don't scare us like that, it's perfectly normal for the light to be on, if the is on, but motor not running/no oil pressure if it's not running, as long as it goes off went it starts and runs, your okay. It Measures pressure not oil level, that's what ththe sight glass is for on the clutch cover.

Yeah I had a bike shop order it for me because I couldn't find it. I'll post pictures later. but I'm gonna take a look at the air hose tomorrow. The previous owner stripped the screws on the fairings so I dont want to have to take them off just yet.

Okay cool, did the P.O. strip the heads or the threads? If it's just the heads replace them with stainless steel allen heads.

ok so I've drained the carbs and check out my air hose. But I've found the problem. It was my air filter. Twitch just had a clogged up nose xD
