Sonora pass

Bored at work and got to thinking...

How do our 250's or 300's handle up there? Do they make it over? I'm assuming we'd lose some power?

Planning to make some trips up there. I need to watch some of Nevadawolfs videos!

Hope everyone has a great week

Hehehe, thanks.

I think I only notice a slight slow down around 8000-9000 feet. Going over the Sierra is usually slow enough on those roads that its not that big of a deal to me. Never had an issue making it back and forth over any of the passes. I just downshift to match the grade and go. Monitor, Carson, Ebbetts, Sonora, and Tioga are my favorite roads because they are smaller and less used than Echo or Donner.

The only time I noticed a problem was trying to maintain highway speed over Monarch Pass (11,312') in Colorado, but so was everyone else. I just stayed in the slow lane and kept the throttle wide open.

I would be the fuel injected bikes do much better than the carbureted ones.

Have been over Tioga with a 250, but not Sonora. Same experience as NW, it works fine without any running issues, though it didn't feel particularly powerful when going uphill once at 7000+ ft.

Sweet! Glad to hear that I shouldn't have issues!

I'll be going over Sonora pass this summer for sure, so I'll let everyone know! Haha

I've been to Sonora on my pre-gen, I didn't notice any problems. From there to Yosemite, down through Merced, back to Modesto.

Looking at Caltrans historic closing/opening dates for the various passes, ballpark you are looking at about three weeks before it opens again (if the trend continues and no storms roll in). http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/clsdlst.htm

This weekend I'm half tempted to go check out Monitor to see how far I can get, or sneak up the back side of Ebbetts until I reach whichever gate is shut. Anything to avoid Geiger Grade and all the rusty riders making their way out of the garage.
