How far would you go??

Name a situation where you went above and beyond for something. Like how far did you drive or how many places did you go?
Today I went to 5 different stores for a pair of boots, it took 4 hours of my day because the boots where on sale and I wanted new boots for my bike.

I drove 2 and a half hours for intake manifold for my car too. I didn't need it I just wanted it.

What's your experience and stories.

Those days are mostly over for me. I mainly buy off the net and have the stuff delivered these days. The nearest town is small and almost 1/2 hour away, and cities with a good selection of stores are over an hour away.

Out of curiosity, how does the price of the intake manifold you bought compare to what you would have paid from an online source like Jegs, including shipping? A lot of the time now, I find that even with shipping, I pay less than if I bought "locally". That's almost always the case when I buy car parts from Rock Auto, compared to Advance or Auto Zone.

And with McMaster-Carr I can order by 5:30 PM and get ground shipping, and the parts normally show up midday the following day, with the total price less than if I got the stuff at Lowe's.

As far as material things go;
My wallet is 27yrs old and starting to fall apart. I have been shopping for a new one for 6 months, counting 22 leather shops and specialty stores with NO luck.
My leather jacket is 25yrs old and I have just started shopping for another. It will be much the same as my wallet.

The shoes were actually $7 more online than in stores. Intake manifold was actually only $50, buying online would of been over $100 with porting done to some which I didn't want.

I understand waiting on buying certain products.
I do that all the time, but for me it's mostly price because I know eventually someone will have common sense and have a reasonable price.

Did your bike try on the boots?

I drove from fort hood to Las Vegas for in n out burger, I drove from fort hood to Winston Salem nc cause my granny promised me a black berry cobbler, from nc to Wayne county Pa for an apartment... I rarely go anywhere if I'm not looking for something

I like local stores TBH, but they are harder to find around here than you'd think and cost more usually; unless you consider that horrible family of stores local anywhere but in Arkansas

I feel you on that. I have to drive 2 hours north for parts because down here there isn't anything available where I'm at. Have to go to the larger city for the goods.

When I moved up to S.F. Bay Area, I used to make regular trips down to Santa Barbara just to get The Habit's pastrami sandwich. It's not offered at any Habits north of San Luis Obispo. Burgers are better at original locations too. Something about a seasoned 40-year old grill that flavours meat just right. They make burger patties by hand from fresh ground-beef instead of using pre-made frozen ones at other locations.

I miss the old days when most stores were local, I fondly remember not having a Walmart on ever other road

I prefer buying local. Not only do I get to evaluate the quality of the item or the fitment but I also get to have it now and not 2 to 3 days later.

My brother and I ran down from central PA to Delaware to pick up a surplus injection pump for his diesel engine, 8+ hour round trip. It was a last minute found it on Craigslist Saturday night pick it up Sunday morning.

Yeah, I grew up in a small town where the only "big" corporate place was a gas station, which was 76.
