Would you stop riding for the rest of your life if someone gave you $500,000 cash?

Here's the catch.....

If you ever get within 2ft of any motorbike (or trike or quad), you'll instantly have explosive diarrhea that will not stop until you're more than 2ft away.

Edit: Ok ok. You guys are witty. You take the money, you can't ride for the rest of your life!

I'd take the money, then buy a truck load of astronaut diapers and a new BMW R1200RT.

But Cadd, the volume of my bowels is finite. As long as they are empty/emptied, this explosive diarrhea will not be possible. So what then? Constant flatulence? Dude, $500k for perpetual farting while on the bike? With the right exhaust system, no one but me would ever know the difference.

I'd blow $500k in a week. Half a week if taxes get involved. No thank you.

This, For me to give up riding it would have to be enough money that I would never have to work another day again. Enough that I could buy a big yacht and spent the rest of my days sailing around the world.

500k wouldn't be nearly enough $$$

If "riding" includes bicycles then definitely not If "riding" means just motorcycles, then I don't know

I think as soon as I took the cash I'd have this itch to ride and it'd be on the back of my mind all the time.

I've already spent well over twice that on motorcycles. You'd have to add 2 zeros and make a few exceptions for me to stop riding.

$500,000 is a lot of money for me, and it might even be enough to take an early retirement...but no, I enjoy motorcycles too much.

I'd take it, bikes are fun and all, but.... I have a huge pile of student loans and would like to be a home owner. I think I'd pay off my loans and buy a nice house and then I could pursue my car passion. Performance car driving is every bit as fun (to me) as riding a bike.

That gets more attractive the older you are.

500K would pay my mortgage, let my wife finish her masters' degree studies with no stress and boost my retirement savings considerably. It would, in effect, let me turn the corner and be reasonably secure for the rest of my life.

I'd be an idiot not to do it. I'd take it in a heartbeat, and move on to another sport. Probably go back to cars.

In my life I've been a pilot, a skydiver, a whitewater kayaker, a racecar driver, an avid cyclist, a working musician.... there are so many amazing things that you can do with your time, money, energy and passion. Motorcycling is just one.

True that. 500k for someone over 60 is quite a bit different than someone 24

Well said. Motorcycles are fun, but there's so many other things in life that can be just as exhilarating.

I think it really depends on your financial situation. 500k is a lot to someone who is 24 as well, it could set you up well for the rest of your life. Get out of debt early on can really boost ones nest egg come retirement age.

I think we're similar in that way Chris. I'm autonomy's biggest fan. When I get told, "I can't do this, or you can't do this" I will find an alternative way to get around it. That's just how I work and in my minds eye, there are always options.

The happiness money brings in only temporary, once the money's gone so is the happiness. Plus as others have said, who wants rules put on their life.

I'm pretty sure riding will be a passion of mine for as long as I'm still physically able, it's in my blood... So no, I'll stick to living my life free of stipulations.

yep. I would.

$500,000 would give me the push I need to re-invest in my life.

Motorcycling is just one thing I enjoy in life. That passion would just get re-distributed to my other passions.

Thinking about it, 500 large is enough to invest into owning a business that I could use to bring in sustained income across the rest of my life. I'd buy a warehouse and start up an indoor go-kart racing location, or just buy out the local one

I'd probably take it haha. I'd jumpstart myself farther in the music industry (metal scene, not top 40 billboard.) Or I'd go to school to study astrophysics.

Never understood college loans. If you spent 100k on college, you probably won't do well making 500k last.

As a college student I don't understand how you rack up 100+ grand in student loan debt.
I did my first year at a community college getting a gpa that allowed me to transfer to a 4 year university (I jumped the gun by a year which cost me some money but whatever) and I work full time while attending university, with my current situation I am paying ~2.5 grand per semester + another 500 for books so 6g/year. On top of that I commute from my parents home. Everything is paid for by my work hours with occasional help from my folks when I run into unexpected expenses. I'm even considering going into law school after I graduate and after graduating law school I still wouldn't be in severe student loan debt due to the fact that I work.

That said, 500k doesn't last that long in the grand scheme of things. It'll get you a nice house or help you start up a business, that's about it. I'd rather work my way up and end up with a garage filled with bikes and a few nice cars.

Interesting question.... for me , no, not worth it. I could do other things but motos have been too big a part of my life to give up for that much cash. $500k doesn't go as far as it used to.

It sounds like you understand completely how one could rack up 100k. But you did EVERYTHING possible not to. Im doing all 4yrs out of state and my family isnt in a position to help at all. Student loans for everything.

With 500k id put myself on a 40k a year budget/salary and survive for 12.5 years. Within that time ill figure out a better long term plan. (stocks, real estate, small business)

Completely agree. I work in the service industry. When I see people pop out their wallets, I literally see 5232523 cards in their wallets. I just don't get it. How many credit/debit cards do you need? It's so scary how people put themselves in these positions and just dig a deeper and deeper hole. Debt = Prisoner/no freedom.

I've seen that same thing too, it was once explained to me "I use this one for gas, next for food, next for drinks at the bar, next for car maintenance/insurance, next one has the mortgage on it, etc, etc" I really don't get it at all.

I consider student loan debt as good debt.

Debt avoidance is not the same thing as wealth creation. Sometimes it really does take an investment (debt) to realize an upside on the back end (wealth, success, other synonyms). Piling on unnecessary or easily avoidable debt due to impatience or ignorance of better options isn't wise either, of course.

Personally - I have very little issue with those investing huge sums in college or other education if there is a reasonable expectation of a return. Spending $100K, $200K or more on an education that qualifies you to be the best-read barista in town doesn't seem particularly forward-thinking. (underwater basket-weaving majors, I'm talking to you! )

True, I guess I could see debt in pursuit of being a lawyer/doctor or other generally well paying position as being not that bad though I do feel that debt avoidance is critical in the long term to ensure that your options are open. When I attain the degree that I'm currently working towards I'll have the option of entering the work force with it or continuing my education in the direction of a law degree without any debt weighing on my decision either way. If it turns out that at some point I need to cut hours and take out a loan then I will but only when it becomes a necessity.

I don't get it either. I did my first two years at community college and going for a four year degree on the extension program (which means I take classes at the community college but get a degree from a state school). With scholarships the first two years were basically paid for, thanks Obama. The second two years are 15k each, but again scholarships and work pay for at least some of that.

The fancy art school down the street though cost upwards of 40k a year.
