Permanent Removal of Passenger Footpegs
Hey all,
The fastener holes that the right passenger footrest attaches to are broken off of the frame. The frame itself is A-OK, but this is causing issues for the exhaust clamp, as that originally connects to the footrest. I have never (and likely will never) had a passenger on my 250, so I don't even need the passenger footrests. Anyone have a solution for mounting the exhaust clamp on a bike without the passenger footrest? What's your suggestion? Any track day peeps out there that have done this for weight reduction? Honestly, I'd get them welded, but I really don't want to have to take the bike apart as welding with everything on would fry all of the electronics, most likely. Thanks! |

Bolt a strap that wraps around muffler to peg mounting-hole.

I've welded on cars and motorcycles lots of times without unhooking anything, I do make sure to put the ground onto a good ground on the piece to be welded, as close to the spot to be welded as I can get it. Make sure your grounding on bare metal. Paint or rust do not make a good ground! In fact I have welded exactly those mounting points back on.

Here's a bracket you can make from a piece of bar-stock from Home Depot.

You can also get rack mounts eyelets for panniers from bicycle shops. These come in various diameters, 1", 1-1/8", 1-1/4", etc. sizes.
Heavier-duty versions for 50-lb bags are available too, but is overkill for a muffler. |
