broken fairing nut

20140525_091559-1.jpg those two fairing screws closest to the turn signal have seem to have made their way to a broken status. The actual broken part is the rubber nut on the inside that the screw screws into. At the moment instead of the nut being attached to the fairing like it should be, I have to wiggle my hand under the dash and attempt to hold the piece in place to screw the fairings together. It's a pain. Btw it's happened on both sides, so 4 nuts total are like this.

Does anyone know of a way to repair or fix these, or is this how the bike was designed?

Order a bunch of M5 rubber wellnuts or a windscreen kit from eBay. You are going to find them rotted everywhere on the bike except the two exposed on the windscreen. Those two had a different part number, so this was very deliberate by Kawasaki. The crappy ones were used everywhere you couldn't see ("out of sight; out of mind") and rot regardless of temperature, environment, etc. Kawasaki later changed the part number later on to match those, so they were aware of the problem. Are your clutch cable boot and trip meter reset button rubber bits rotting too?

There are two under the rear seat, two in the undertail, four holding the lowers on, two holding the headlight in, and four holding the windscreen. Because two of the windscreen wellnuts should be fine, you need at least 12. No need to dig in to replace them all though. Just have them on hand so that you can replace them as you encounter them.

My post was so he could see the parts break down. Where he buys them from is up to him.

10 wellnuts with blue bolts and nylon washers for $3.48:

That's probably exactly what I got from Motech/Speedmetal.
