"New" 2005
Hi All,
First time here. I just picked up a really clean 2005 with 3300 miles. I was out learning it today and noticed that it feels a little loosy goosy in corners, like it wants to slide out from under me when it is leaned over at a certain point. I thought maybe I was hitting the wear spot on the tire or something. I really did feel like it was sliding once though. Any thoughts? Am I crazy and just not used to it yet, or is it possible the original tires are not grabbing? |

The stock tires on the pre-gen's weren't great when new. If they have been sitting for 5 years, that doesn't make them any better. A new set of tires would go a long way to help things feel a bit better when leaned over...

I agree with Alex. Also, check your air pressures.

As tires get older they get harder, and grip less. I dont care what tread you have on there. Get some new shoes!!!

Congratulations on the new to you bike. I have an 05 that I bought brand new and have enjoyed every minute of it. I agree with the above statements. Get some new shoes. It will feel like a new bike.

Thanks
Thanks to all for the replies. I'll search the forum for tire info. I'm loving this bike so far. I've been riding for a couple of years on a little 250 dual sport with street tires on it. This is a HUGE difference!

your spring may need adjusted as well .. its hard to tell if someone else adjusted it to their weight and its not set correctly for you.

The '05 bikes don't have adjustable suspensions. Otherwise, tires need replacing. I like the Kenda K671s, they're inexpensive and last really well. There's a nice section on tires over at http://forums.ninja250.org/ , look in the FAQ.
I got my '06 in '09 with only 2k miles on it, the tires were junk and had to be replaced ASAP. |
