Gauges not working!
Well, I bought the bike about 3 weeks ago from a guy in the army. It is a 2008 250r. The first thing I did was ride it home about 40 miles. Everything worked fine, just like it should. The next time I rode it, about 3 or 4 days later, I noticed that the fuel gauge was slow to climb to full. It took probably a full 2 minutes for this to happen, then the tachometer didn't come on until about 30 seconds later. This happened for the next week. Then the second week i had the bike the same thing happened i described above, except now, the speedometer wouldn't work until the bike got moving about 15mph or about 30 seconds after i set off.
well, today, the end of the third week I've had the bike, the gauges took a very long time to start working, probably 5 to 7 minutes. on my lunch break, i started the nike, let it idle for 5 minutes and couldn't wait any longer so i headed out for lunch and the gauges would not work at all. currently the fuel gauge and the tach will work sporadically and the speedometer will not work at all. So, Anyone have any ideas?!?!?! regards, Blake |

I would look for a connector that contains all of those functions for corrosion or a bad chassis ground, somewhere.
Here's an electrical schematic for our bikes. http://www.mickeywebpages.com/users/...e_Dia_v1.1.gif |

I have a 2008 250R with roughly 21,000 miles on it and have been having a similar issue with my gauge cluster for probably about 6,000 miles now. I actually posted on the problem over a year ago.
I think it is either a corrosion problem like another user suggested, or maybe water buildup within the glass? Sometimes when I tap on the glass when riding, the needles will flick up. Weird. |

i checked over all the connections i could find and couldn't find anything bad. The speedo has stopped all together and the tach eventually works... usually.
The bike is an '08 but only has 4,800 miles. |

take a look at ther pictures in this ebay auction. I'm saying the connectors that run to the cluster must be corroded or compromised in some way. You need to get to that connector, take it apart and clean it out to possibly fix your problem.

try spraying the contacts with some contact cleaner when you have them apart... both sides.

Did you fix your problem? After getting my bike completely back together, I noticed that I'm experiencing the same problem... It was working yesterday and I didn't change/move anything that should affect the gauges...

Hello:
I have the same problem with my 08' 250R with 8300 kms (I´m from spain). I think that the problem would be the speedo cable. Check it because it would be broken. V´ss |

My fuel needle is always slow but I don't think that's an issue. I ran the battery completely dead once and push-started the bike when my tach decided to go absolutely nuts. It would go from nothing to way beyond maximum (out of range) and would only behave normally at certain RPMs until I got some charge back in the battery.
Later, the rubber bulb on my trip meter reset button rotted and allowed humidity into the gauges. For days it only caused condensation on the inside of the lenses but, after a good rain, they went haywire again. Sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn't. I just warmed it up in the parking garage at work until it all evaporated out and it worked from then on. |
