THH vs. Scorpion Ex-400?

Looking at getting a good helmet and read some reviews. The THH is Snell approved. The Scorpion seems to have a good following.

Ideas?

Should be in gear section. But as for helmets, I have a scorpion EXO-500. Love it. But the size is kinda weird on me and Im going into a store to try a size up. So if you order online, go into a local store and try the helmet type on first.

If your looking for snell, the scorpion EXO-1000 is Snell. Its on the heavy side from what I hear. GL x-)

If you think you need to go a size up for the helmet to fit properly, you're probably wearing the wrong type of helmet. There's more to helmet sizing than just "small, medium, large, etc". Each manufacturer builds their helmets with different head shapes:

http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcyc...helmet-faq.htm

Go down to the section about head shapes to see what I'm talking about. The only way to really get a good feel for what type of helmet would fit your head profile the best is to go into a gear shop and speak with someone knowledgeable there or just try on different helmets to see which brands feel the most comfortable. That being said, scorpion helmets are pretty good.

I love my Scorpion helmets! I'm brand loyal because I've never had issues with any helmet they've made.

If most helmets I tried on and fit were XXL then I should order XXXL in a Scorpion?

EXO-400 is both Snell and DOT rated.

Review here

I've had my 400 for five years now and have never had a problem with it. The 400 is somewhat noisy behind a faired bike but really quiet is clean air.

I've been riding a exo400 and absolutely love it.

I've ridden in 40 degree temps, 110 degree temps (today), rain, traffic jams, consistent 80mph, and on the track. I've never had any issues with it at all. If I could find any flaws, I would have to say the venting system is confusing and hard to determine if vents are open or closed. Visor doesn't have a locked-cracked position so big bumps and high speeds will close it.

The fog free visors work extremely well! It was my fav feature over my previous helm (other than how crazy comfortable this thing is). I would like to get a exo700 while they are still only $70 at sbtg, but don't really see a reason to other than having a better design and allowing for my 400 to become a spare.

TL;DR: exo400 = super mega good helm for the money

In the Webbike World review a user posted that the newer versions of the 400 have an additional indent for just cracking the shield open.

Nathan, the 400 shields fit the 700 but no other models. Something to think about.

Good choice kyrider. I never seriously considered a THH helmet because they also make non-protective novelty helmets, which is just unconscionable. Why put out a helmet that won't help someone in a crash that someone will wear just b/c of helmet law? Makes me kinda mad to think about a helmet company that should be concerned about safety cashing in on that kind of customer.

It isn't a novelty helmet, actually is certified. Not that a 1/2 helmet makes any safety sense in general, but at least a step up.

Lol a step up from what a bicycle helmet, certified or not, these both protect just as well aka minimal. The 100 looks to have an eye shield. Certified means it was tested to withstand certain impacts and have certain features etcetc. Well what good is a helmet that, even in a crash, never gets used. And if you did hit the top of your head, you probably ran into a wall and broke your neck

I don't rele care, I'm just pointing out, don't hate on a company for taking advantake of harley riders and police with the salad bowl ww2 helmets(were ww2 helmets dot certified?). They ovbiously only make modular helmets for the same reason.

Its no different than ford making a V6 mustang to go beside the GT

If gear safety was only concern, they would only sell models based off their safest versions. They sell what people buy, thh might not be selling half as much, and might not have the luxury of stamping "safe" on a equally unsafe helmet.

I just went through that exercise. Still disappointed because I love some of the Scorpion designs. But they don't fit me right

(I found HJC fits well - the shop didn't have a color I wanted so my order has been placed)

Well, I just wrote a great response that first agreed about risks of wearing any shorty and then pwned you for calling DOT and novelty helmets equal, then I did more research and found out the THH helmets actually are safety tested and not novelty helmets -- making them the same as any moderately responsible shorty. Which, frustratingly, made you right and me wrong. I take back all the bad things I said about THH. Well, some of them. They are still cheap ass helmets.

Genius marketing is what that is. We should start a helmet company and make them all smell like bacon. We could outsell Scorpion.

I have an EXO 400. My only big complaint is the noise. Of course thats going to vary between people and bikes. Also it does not vent very well, it does not seem to make a difference if I open or close the vents, and if you want to crack the face shield to let in a bit of air, the first open setting on the shield is too high up for riding over 40 mph.

In contrast to that, the fog free face shield works pretty well. I'm not saying it does not fog at all. When stopped in cold weather it still fogs a bit, but goes away when moving.

To echo what was posted previously, they do smell like chocolate when new, and thats fine until you ride by a body of water and pick up that fish smell. First time I did that, my helmet smelled like chocolate fish for weeks later.
