Random Dying?
So I ride my little guy around town a lot. And one time I ran out of gas (or so I thought)... The engine start sputtering and eventually died. I turned on reserve and after a few minutes she fired up and I went to the gas station...
However, when I filled it up it only cost me $11 @ 3.29 a gallon. 11/3.29= 3.34 gallon tank... The ninja is supposed to have a 4.8 gallon tank isn't it? So that got me wondering... Now the other day, she sputters again and dies, I thought, wow, I haven't ridden much I'm surprised i'm out of gas already. So I ran over, filled it up with $8 @ 3.35 a gallon... I could still see gas in the tank when I opened it up to fuel it up! What the freakin heck! The engine heat was about 3/4 to red, but that's where it usually runs when it's 102 outside. Anyone have an idea of what's going on? Because it won't start until I turn it onto reserve, but the main tank is still plenty full! |

did you try starting it again after opening the tank and seeing gas in there.
maybe it was a case of Schrodingers tank.

@Jiggles, its too bad the wave-form of probabilities and the potential of there being gas or no gas in there at any given moment doesnt keep me from pushing my bike to the gas station every other week.

The pick-up filter of the petcock inside the tank may be partially clogged, as well as the internal filter at the inlet of the carburetors.
You can counter-flush the first with air (keep tank cap open), so you don't have to separate the petcock from the tank. Also, the vacuum to the petcock may be weak due to some crack in the vacuum tube (restricting the flow of gasoline through the petcock and starving the engine when the fuel level in the tank is low enough).

Are you sure you're filling the tank up all the way?

I am sure I am filling the bike up all the way lol. It's not that hard to tell XD I have done the center stand and the side stand both. Depends on my mood that day lol.
alright I might take it up to the shop and tell them to rattle around in there and see if they see anything. Hasn't done it since and I've gone through about a full tanks worth of gas since. So maybe it was just a temporary thing. Hopefully |
