If any manufacturer is known for pumping out special edition versions of its core models, it’s Triumph. The British manufacturer is at it again, announcing special editions commemorating the 1994 debut of the Speed Triple 900.

The 2016 Triumph Speed Triple 94 and Speed Triple 94 R are based on the current 2015 roadster but with styling cues calling back to the 1994 model. Both SE models are available n Racing Yellow or Jet Black to match the original paint schemes of the ’94 model. Triumph also painted the subframe graphite to match the frame while the side panels are also colored to match those on the original.

Other changes include black exhausts, black filler caps and color-matched fly screens, seat cowl and belly pan. The yellow version also comes with matching pin-striping. All of the Speed Triple logos are in the original 1994 typeface while a commemorative plaque is mounted on the tank.



Like the non-SE Speed Triple, the R version adds a black-anodized fully-adjustable Ohlins fork, Ohlins TTX36 rear shock, radial-mount Brembo monoblock calipers, and Pirelli Supercorsa SP tires. The regular Speed Triple 94 uses Showa suspension and non-monoblock Brembo calipers.

Triumph hasn’t officially confirmed that the Speed Triple 94 or Speed Triple 94 R will be offered in the U.S., but both models have already received certification from the California Air Resources Board for 2016. Curiously, only these special edition models have been certified for 2016. The regular Speed Triple and Speed Triple R may still be awaiting certification, but the fact they weren’t certified together with the 94 models leaves open the possibility of an update.
