Which AreaP exhaust?

I will be getting an AreaP exhaust system in the near future, after AreaP borrows my bike for setting up a new race system. In return for having my bike out of my hands for 2-4 weeks, they are putting a full system and jet kit on my bike. The problem is that I can't make up my mind on which system to have installed.

I have literally been googling/searching for information on this all night. I have read the numerous threads on the 3 basic AreaP exhausts that members on the forums the standard 12", the custom 15" QC and the 18" QC. I have narrowed it down to either the 12" or the 15" but I can't really make a loudness comparison. I currently have a Two Bros slip on that is loud and it's what I'm used to riding with. I have also read that the 12" is stupid loud... but is it louder than TBR? I can't find the dB numbers for the TBR and really can't make a comparison on that level either, so I'm calling them tomorrow and hoping they don't lie on their dB numbers.

Anyways, what have been your experiences with the different AreaP exhausts? Has anyone been able to hear a 12" next to the 15"?

Oh yea... yes I know Kelly, you are going to stay that the 18" is perfect, anything else is too loud and is just annoying to everyone else (or something to that extent)

don't quote me on this, but i think that they will custom cut any size from 15-18"...call up and ask kerry, he can probably tell you which size will be as loud as your two brothers. their customer service is second to none...

If I can't get a straight answer from TBR I will ask Kerry. I'm driving the bike in anyways, so he will hear it on site if he can't answer that question over the phone/email.

Oh yea and I love the flat end cap too

So according to Two Bros their slip on at idle has a sound output in the high 90's dbA and at 5,000-6,000rpm is low 100's dbA. For AreaP the 12" is 90 dbA at idle and 105 dbA at 5000 rpm and 18" is 83 dbA and 95 dbA respectively and I remember reading that Kerry said that the 15" will probably have a 2 dbA increase compared to the 18".

Bahh I don't know what to do. Is there anyone on here that enjoys the 12" beyond the first few weeks of owning it?

cindy,

i'm sure you'll be happy with your FREE exhaust either way. personally, 18" looks a little too long (same length as stock), while the standard 12" looks "stubby". 15" would be a nice compromise for appearance and sound. obviously, performance is going to be great regardless. keep us updated and post a pic if you decide to go with the 15"

AP is finally doing the 2-1-2 race exhaust this will be interesting. TBR is full of it though their exhaust is the second loudst available behind the Totsubo.

I just purchased the 15" QC from Area P, so far so good. Sounds awesome; however I can't compare it to the 12" or 18" QC. All I know it is def louder than stock. Now if I can only get this jetting correct, but that is for another time.

I picked the 15" based off what other people are saying as well, it is quieter than the 12" but does not look as long as the 18". Good luck !

LOL well Vince it's not completely free. My bike is my daily driver and I pay for my parking permit at work. I get to take the bus, walk or beg my co-workers for a ride for the 2-4 weeks while they have it. I just hope it cools off by September. BTW isn't someone getting a custom exhaust hanger out of it too?

The guy at TBR wasn't very convincing, he originally said sound output was low 100's I had to ask if that was idle or 5000 rpm.

On the noise level, it's something I have to convince Ryan of too. He bought me the TBR pipe because it was loud... he's one of those loud pipes saves lives people. I know of the extensive thread in the general section. I think with lane splitting in stopped traffic it makes sense to have a little bit more noise than the scooter-ish stock exhaust but beyond that it's excessive. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of it but I'm honestly tired of hearing him gripe that I need to upshift to keep the noise down when I can't shift any higher than 6th and being terrified that a grumpy cop is going to pull me over.

I generally ride 2 miles a day, or on occasion short rides that don't include the freeway, so I didn't really think of it. I used to put in ear buds to listen to music and keep the volume the same as I would if I wasn't riding, but I found that my ears hurt after doing that. I'm planning on picking up some disposables after work today.

it's actually the high freq wind noise that will kill your hearing. If you ride over 40-50mph during that trip or your ears ring after riding, you are doing damage to your hearing.

The plugs will definitely help with that loud exhaust, too.

Yea I knew that. Most of the roads I take are under 35 mph.
