Speedometer calibration

Is there a way to do it? I haven't done a time trial yet but I have a feeling mine is off by a bit. I know they usually overestimate, but I think mine is underestimating.

Back story:
I was riding behind a friend on an open stretch and we went WOT. I kept pace with him the whole time and didn't see my speedo tick over 140km/hr (87mph).

When we stopped later, he said wow we were doing 175. (~108mph).

So who is right? I'm pretty sure my 140 reading is wrong, though I doubt we were going 175 either. Maybe 150ish if I had to guess?

So back to original question, is there a way to calibrate it so I can at least get some inference from my speedo?

I'm 100% stock everything right now btw.

The easiest way to confirm speed is with a gps, mounted on the bars or even just slipped into the top pocket of a tankbag. Once the speedo error is learned though, there's not much to easily change so the speedometer shows the correct speed. With an electronic gauge, there are speedo calibration tools that you can put inline from the sensor to allow it to display correctly (speedohealer is a common one). But with our mechanically driven speedometer, that's not possible, without replacing the whole system with one that would rely on an electronic sensor.

Probably a hair over 11k.
That's another thing, I don't seem to be able to get the revs up in 6th.
Sorry, I've only had the bike for almost a week after having a cbr250 so I'm just getting comfortable with the operational differences.

Thanks I should have thought of that. Even knowing what the error is would go a long way to helping out.

You mean it won't go over 11k in 6th? This is why, your power goes byebye at that point

What's your opinion on the CBR versus the Ninja? I almost got a CBR but the person I was going to buy it off of still had a lien on it and blah blah blah I ended up buying a Ninja instead.

Kind of curious what the CBR is like.

Hahahaa, never seen that bit of HTML before. Very clever.

But yeah, the AreaP would look good on my bike & I should have picked it up instead of going the cheaper route. I do like the sound and performance of my Tyga system though, just wish they hadn't melted my damn fairings.

Maaan, I've never seen an Area P. here in Brazil... but, there's a full system for the ninjettes that most of the riders in Copa Ninja (Ninja cup, only 250's on the grid), it's called Jeskap gp pro. The sound is amazing! and we're talking about a big improvement in HP / torque, te system is perfect. the slip on is made in titanium and the remaining is made in carbon steel (not sure of it, but it's something like it hahahaha)

@Jiggles, if you want to send me a Area P for free, I'll be glad to test and advertise it here hahahahaha

edit: that html surprised me! hahahahahaha what kind of sorcery is that!?! oO hahahaha

The CBR is really nice. Everyone already knows the high end torque is not there there way it is on the ninja though. It shoots off the line way better though.
It's a single cylinder and it works like one.
I like how the ninja just goes faster.
Build quality-wise, the Honda is hands down better. It just feels better under you. It's like comparing a new Accord to an ummm I don't know, old Cavalier or something. The EFI and other whizbang stuff is more comforting too.

Running carbs is going to be fun though! Arr I didn't know there was so much back and forth with jetting and shimming until I got on here.

Regarding exhaust, I'm not doing anything wild anytime soon, have to pay for the bike first. I had the danmoto GP on the CBR and loved it, looks and sound and was considering just getting that for fun in the meantime.

Area P results look like desirable outcomes, so maybe later in the winter I'll fiddle with it, Asspire you're gonna help me right? His blue flame is pretty sick, I've seen that.

Thx Jiggles, but you know my exhaust is the Leovince, best quality and one of the most powerful.
And it has what's most important, equal length in the manifold - this is what you get the most power from.
The oem for cylinder 1 is 30mm longer then cylinder 2...

By the way, i dont think there is anyone that wants nude pics of an old guy.... not even granny. :-)
