Swingarm swap from 300 to 250?
Has anybody tried this?
I went into the dealership last week and saw that the 300 has a 140 rear tire by default, and the swingarm is "modded" so to speak to accept even wider tires with no problem. Would that swingarm work on a '08-'12 250R? |

I think the wheels pretty much swap over, so forget the swingarm and just get the wheel. Not sure if the spacers are the same or not?

Same here, I believe you can do a straight swap on front & rear wheels from the N300 to the N250.

I'll have to go to the dealership again and take some pictures, the swingarm on the 2015 300 doesn't look the same as the one in the Clymer manual diagram.

I'm not sure about the 2015, but the earlier 300 swingarms are the same as the 250 swingarm as far as I can tell, other than some accessory mounting details. The chainguard has a little hugger builtin, which screws into rivnuts on top of the swingarm, and the brake hose guide might be different. The chainguard is notched at the front to give a little more clearance for a wider tire. The actual main swingarm is the same though (and very similar to the EX500's too).

I don't think the front is a simple swap because the speedometer is electronic on EFI bikes, right? If so, then there is no speed sender on the left side and it might require some kind of spacer. Even then, you'd be without a speedometer.

It depends on the car or motorcycle, but good point a buddy of mine did the wheel swap on his bike before selling it. I didn't inquire the specific mods he did but as far as I know it was simple enough to do for the average Joe. I could ask him if your planning to do a wheel swap. With cars you can just buy a simple analog to digital conversion kit or customize your own on various cars & trucks. Instead of using a cable you use a rotation sensor.

For me, it's the rear wheel swap that make sense because of the wider rear rim from the ninja 300. Therefore you can avoid having to pinch the tires when using 140mm+. Most 130 size tires are bias-ply except for the new Michelin, some people prefer radial tires for better life and performance.

i did the rear swing arm swap and then some on my pregen 250 to get 17 inch rims but I guess I did not think about different types of 17 inch tyres.... I got 110/70 and 140/70 DRII's... for the track on a ninja 250.... you guys think larger than 140 has an advantage?..... |

This might be an easy way to eliminate the speedo drive from a track NewGen, if the parts in this area are as similar as some of the other wheel-related parts on different models of the small Ninjas. Whereas the NewGen has tabs right as part of the wheel, the 500 uses a little piece with tabs that clips into the wheel. If you really wanted to use the 300 wheel with a cable speedo, you might be able to adapt that. Back to the original topic, the 2015 EX300 swingarm in the parts diagram looks pretty similar to the earlier 300 and NewGen swingarms that I've seen, not counting minor accessory mounting differences. http://www.kawasaki.com/Parts/PartsD.../2015/EX300AFS Granted, these are just drawings in a manual, but I don't see anything about that diagram that indicates the main structure of the swingarm is any different. I'm curious to see actual pics of it, to see if there really is any difference. Random Google image: That looks pretty similar to what I'm used to.
