Bike wouldn't rev past 6k, then died
Hey guys, long time lurker here.
Here's the deal. I cleaned the carbs on my bike a few days ago, and took it out today. Was riding it all day literally, and it ran awesome up until just now. It all started when I took it on the freeway. It was going well for about two minutes, but then it started to lose power. I knew I had gas, but switched to reserve and there was no improvement. It got so bad I had to pull off the freeway because I was barely going 50 mph, and it wouldnt rev past 6000ish RPM. I tried to get it back home, and the problem got worse. When I would get on the throttle, it made an awful sounding gurgling or burping sound from the intake I'm assuming. The way it was running, it sounded like it was running on one cylinder. I eventually couldn't even maintain 15 mph, so I pulled into a Wendy's and it died out and wouldn't start. After about 15 min, I got it to start, but it still wouldn't rev under load. At this point, I'm calling a tow. Any insight at all guys? |

Can you open the carb drain? See if fuel comes out

I'll try that shortly, I'm about to put it in the back of a pickup soon. I'm hoping it's a carb issue and nothing more serious.

Open the gas filler and listen for air rushing in, which would tell you it's not venting.
Opening the floatbowl drains would tell you if you had fuel to the carb. You also may not be getting adequate vacuum to the petcock because of a vacuum hose problem. Was the gas fresh? Any rust in the tank? |

do you hear ticking? it sounds like you blew a crank
or maybe just a stuck float valve?

Have you installed an inline fuel filter? Good for keeping trash from reaching the carbs and messing them up.

As long as you know, has the bike used synthetic of natural oil?

FWIW, during all this, the bike never overheated or anything like that. There's oil in it, and it's not milky or otherwise contaminated. |

if you can get it running, check and see if both headers are getting warm. it will tell you if one cylinder is not firing
also, if you do that, take video of it running and post it here.
