Looks about right, but the pre-gen number changed over the years. The 86/87 model had the most peak hp, and it got dialed back slightly for the '88 redesign. Then a few years in (I think '94) there were some more changes in dialing the timing back, and I thought the compression ratio as well. By the time it got to 2007, the rating wasn't 38 ps.

Would the Ninja 300 even do well in Australia? No longer selling a 250 there would be stupid due to the license restrictions.

Yep it's learner legal, says so on the page that was linked earlier; http://www.kawasaki.com.au/ninja300/ Click on the "No Compromise" link on the above page and you'll see that it states "Learner Legal" across the top. Also, the LAMS restriction is based on power-to-weight ratio rather than actual HP. The heavier the bike, the more HP it is allowed to have. LAMS approved bikes can also be no larger than 660cc in capacity (in NSW at least). |

I think all sportbikes should be described with an Australian accent.
In love with this bike. I can't wait to see what Sept 13 brings! |

I just read this article (about the new Z800) and they had this to say about the North American 250:

I believed the rumor was a possibility because I had received the Kawi owners' servey that addressed displacement; BUT I really thought FI in the would have gotten attention first in the USA . However, I'm sure the surveys weren't all filled out by DIYers.

I know, right? It's just irresponsible of Kawi to put that kind of power in the hands of unsuspecting consumers!

it's not the first time technology from the track has been applied to street bikes. slipper clutches will definitely make the bike more noob friendly and at the same time a bonus for track riders. personally i enjoy blipping the throttle, but i see no negatives here. everybody wins.

love the slipper addition. in fact, love everything about it except for the 300cc part... why 300cc? i suppose if they keep the 250 engine for racing its not an issue... but if they ditch the 250 for 300 only i'll be sad
