2013 Formula 1 - Official Thread

Ok, its only official because I say it is, but I did this the last couple years, and thought I should do it again this year.

Here is a quick look at notable technical/rules changes for 2013
- Double DRS is banned, as seen on Mercedes in 2012
- DRS limited to designated zones in practice and qualifying. Tracks will have two DRS zones, where safety permits.
- Points system introduced to enforce driving standards. Points will be assigned for on track incidents. When a predetermined point total is reached the driver will be banned from racing.
- Inseason testing is again banned after it was reinstated last year for the first time since 2009. This is part of cost cutting efforts.
- Minimum weight increased to 1420 lbs to accomodate changes in 2013 spec tires.

Now for the team lineups and schedules (These are still not completely set in stone and will be updated as they are announced.)

It's official as far as I'm concerned. Thanks for starting it again.

I'm going to try to make it to Monaco again. My oldest son will be in Italy for 6 months so I might go over and surprise him with a trip to the race.

Launches updated. McLaren nose looks like last year (but isn't, see below), so does Lotus, still has the step. Force India is using a modesty cover on the nose to disguise the step. Ferrari appears to be using the modesty cover as well.

Ferrari still ugly but better than last year. McLaren not bad.

In between the rules and aero considerations, everyone's getting forced into these flat-topped noses that just don't look good even if you do put a modesty band-aid on 'em.

I believe that the 2014 rules will require lower noses, won't they?

I watched the reveal of the McLaren on Youtube and saw them trot out several old cars. The MP4-4 was MUCH more attractive despite being slab-sided by today's standards.

I'm not watching Ferrari until Rossi drives for them, or until March.

Sorry about your luck As it turns out all the seats weren't set. Marussia replaced Luiz Razia with Jules Bianchi because Razia's second sponsor payment wasn't made. Marussia said they had no choice but to replace him.

Also... testing is over. Lets go racing!!!!

I think they should put Putin in the cockpit. It's just the kind of thing he'd like to do.

Good to see there will be lots of coverage on NBC Sports Network, and you should also be able to watch live streaming coverage on the NBC Sports Live Extra app for ios and Android (guess my Windows phone and tablet aren't getting it Might have to steal my wife's ipad when I am away racing.)

In addition to what I put in the post there is the pre-race coverage, and post race "F1 Extra".

It was great to hear Rossi has some what of a ride. Even if it's friday practice it gives him time in the seat and experience on each of the circuits.

Great start to the season and awesome job by Kimi and the Lotus team for their pit strategy and tire conservation. Let's see if the Iceman can knock off SV from the top this year.

Time for a beer!

Massa has quote of the day; Massa, "what do you want to do", Adrian Newey, "you're out in front see what you can do". Big difference between Massa's thoughts and Kimi's last year, "leave me alone I know what to do".

I think Massa was looking for a Tire answer.... Everybody else came in.. What are we doing..
OH, getting Alonso out in front of you

I liked speeds pre race coverage better.

i liked how the race continues while the commercial is playing in another picture box. rest of it seems pretty close to speeds coverage

I watch the races on a 110" screen from my projector. Picture in picture size doesn't bother me

Was nice hearing Bob's voice this morning.
They need to quit talking at the glass table, practice was on for 5 minutes before they cut over. Can talk while showing us the track.

Kimi hit with the 3 place grid penalty. Will be starting 10th for the race. SV takes the pole. Unfortunately, in order to cater to European audiences, the race starts later in the afternoon where chances of storms are more likely. Right now, forecasts are calling for roughly a 50% chance of t-storms for the afternoon.

Crazy!

Just crazy!

If it can go wrong, it will go wrong!

Vettel is a crybaby!

Webber still hasn't cured his anorexia.

Massa, oh Massa. What can I say? You should be paying to race. Better yet, give the seat to Rossi (Alex).

Tiger Woods is doing great in Michael's seat.

Nico, has that back seat feel?

Alonso, it's more exciting playing catch up.

It was the pits in the pits.

Why don't they run the races at night over there. I hate staying up all night to watch it live.
