Saved the bike..burnt my leg

more of a rant then a wreck..

it was a normal short ride to work (3 miles).. i was like 45 min. early and realized the guy that opens today is always late... so i went for a ride in the suburbs around my job..
so i get to a cross street where i have the right of way and the car has a stop sign.. the guy blows the stop sign and jams on the brakes.. by now his skidding toward me while im in a turn.. as his is about to t-bone me, i slammed on the breaks before uprighting.. i got the rear of the bike away from him but i almost highsided but i somehow saved the bike and myself.. in the process of getting under control my right leg hit the pipes..

when i got back to work, i checked my self out to make sure i wasnt jacked up.. i lift the bottom of my jeans above my boot line and saw something was wrong..my right leg is tatted from my ankle to knee.. i touched the skin the didn't look right on my tat.. a one inch piece of skin that was just feel off.. scary and gross.. the burn removed all layers right down to where the ink pigments the skin.. just waiting to see if this damages the ink
damn cager

/rant

It would be a deep second degree. If it had gone through the full layer of skin past the ink and into the tissue below, then it would be third degree.

Keep it protected, keep it clean, use anti-biotic ointments on it, allow it to get air.

There was no red skin, as it is in a area of blue tattoo ink.. by the time i looked at it, there was no blister and the skin fell off when i touched around the area the actual skin..
i will post pics asap

Go for a long ride; make sure it's an early morning ride. Get the bike really good and hot, and smell the fresh bacon!

Yes, but he said he still had the skin at the layer of the ink. That means it's not yet into the flesh and therefore wouldn't be into 3rd just yet. At least that's what I get from his description.

Sounds like you did a good job handling the bike and a situation where the other guy blew the stop sign. Pretending every driver on the road is about to do something idiotic is the key to survival. And sounds like your leg isn't too bad, so great result to skillful riding.

Regardless, may be a good time to walk through step by step and see if there is anything you wish you did differently. (Other than keep your leg off the pipe ). Even when it clearly wasn't your fault, near misses and accidents a good chance to help out other members.

Mind if I ask how fast you were going heading into the intersection? One of the things I've been doing - even when I have the right of way - is getting close to 30 mph and covering the brakes before I go through an intersection, anticipating someone is going to ignore the right of way or not see me at all and pull out. Frankly, it is a pain in the ass to do that, but it has worked well to keep me safe on the rare occasion someone drives like an ahole in an intersection. As it happens, the ninjette is able to stop very quickly from 30, before you get through an intersection, while 40mph puts you through an intersection before you can stop her, necessitating swerving and other more painful avoidance maneuvers.

Cagers always blow the stop signs ! always

Motorcycles are invisible and stop signs are optional!

For that line you have officially earned the title of "hardcore biker"!

I read every post in this sub forum for that exact reason. Learn from other peoples mistakes. From what he's said it sounds like decreasing his speed and covering his brakes (like you said) may have aloud him to stop before reaching the cage. Moving to a country that uses roundabouts instead of intersections might also help No idea why the USA gov opts for those death traps.

I know right! I was actually thrown by the power of my brakes the other day. It's been cold up until recently and for some reason that has made her brakes less effective. Now that it's warmed up, they are back to normal.

The term was hammered into my head during a media studies course I did back when I was 17. Also: "mise en scène": maybe that will be your strange term for next week.

so...been taking pics of the burn with my iphone but the pics suck because the tat looks wet..now that most of it is finally dry, i'll have my wife snap some shots with her camera.. spoiler alert: due to lack of gore...it wont be as gross as some of the blister photos i've seen on here

it only hurts in two small area that might be infected... or there is a blister underneath because i leaked like a 1/2 shot of liquids from the wounds.. maybe some of you medical bikers could provide me with an idea of what to expect...

at one point i was a welder/fabricator..i've had a million tiny burns but never anything this large..

next time.. i'll make the guy pull over and check myself on the spot
