Smile Hello from Louisville, Ky

Hello Ninjette’rs ...
Im an old guy who currently lives in Louisville, KY, and just got a z400. Ive had many bikes and scooters since 1975. Ive always had big, fast bikes, but after dropping my massive heifer BMW RS while putting it on the shed—and not being able to pick it up—I realized its time to scale back a little. Take care, be safe

Hi Thunderkat,
That's exactly howI felt about my current Ducati Diavel Carbon, after test riding, and buying a new Ninja 400SE for my wife last month.

I can see the day, not far off, when I no longer want to manage the heft of the Diavel (even though the Carbon is not much heavier than many mid-range bikes). The Ninja is so much fun to ride - a different experience, sure, but fantastic fun as a light middleweight - and so easy to manage around the shed.

Hey, it is even lighter than the 2010 Ninja 250R we are buying for one of my sons to begin his riding adventures...

All the best from Ozzieland (aka Orstraya).

PS - just joined now, too.

Hello Ashley, I have found that out ... No matter how hi-tech a bike is, it is always that 'fun' factor that is the most important in the end. I made some pretty bad bike decisions in the past, but this one is right. Its simple, easy to ride, I can wheel it around the garage easily, all the things that I over looked in the past. Im not a big strong individual, even getting that BMW up or off the stand was a terrifying moment. If it had a full tank of gas, it was a very frightful second not know which way it is going to go. Im 61. I dont need anything that seems like 'work' now, lol Small is good
Australia is on my 'must visit' list, what a great place to live!

Hi Thunderkat,
I know the feeling, being mid 60's myself. Also, I've had the overall slowing and weakening effect of the 'zipper' (open heart surgery, for you nippers).

It was funny, but after the heart attack, my younger brother wanted me to get an R1200RT like him, because it was comfortable. Went to the BMW shop, and that idea died fast when I just lifted the Starship Enterprise up from the side-stand...

There's another part to the smaller bikes. Here in ozzieland, speed enforcing is getting more prevalent and draconian. The Ninja makes life at the speed limit really fun again. Also, the TCO - Total Cost of Ownership means you get a lot, lot, lot more miles and riding fun in retirement.

My wife just loves her Ninja 400, and for the first time in decades she is excited about riding again, because the bike doesn't overwhelm her, unlike the previous bikes I'd picked out for her in the past (always too much). This one was her choice. And it looks like a million dollars in the sparkly red SE colours to match her rosy disposition.

If you do get to Oz and can go motorcycling, Tasmania has a wonderful motorcycling environment. Lots of rural windy roads with very light traffic. It is often overlooked, being an island south of the mainland. Taswegians get mighty ticked off that it often gets left off maps of Australia, he he. Beer, if not blood, has been shed over this.

Actually, in buying a 500 mile, but stored for 7 years 2012 Ninja 250R for my 30 yr old son to start motorcycling, I'm coming around to the idea of not giving it to him at all. Hey, I bought it...

There's a lot of fun in these bikes.
Cheers, Ashley
