Anyone try this style mirror extender?

Has anyone tried these mirror extenders?

I have seen the DIY on this forum, and another, for the other model SW-MOTECH makes, but I think THIS one is more attractive looking. According to the specs, they are both 40mm, and the 08+ 250r is on the fit list for both models. A bit pricey though....

I use the other style mirror extender for my 250. It appears that this model lacks the adjustability that I have with the one on my bike which I'm pretty pleased with. Only problem I've had is that the black powder coating has been burned off and left a bronze tone to the extender. Its rather intriguing looking.

Yes I had that problem with the SW Motech mirror extenders on my 650R. After riding in a hard rain, they changed color.

Not cool after paying $65 for a part that only cost them a few dollars to make. I would expect a little better quality control at the $35 mark.

My extended swingarm slider spools turned a hideous color (originally black).

I agree, $65 is a little steep. After purchasing the mirror extenders, you think it can be easily made ourselves? Doesnt look that complicated being a block of metal with 2 holes in it and a little smoothing out around the edges.

When you get the chance, could you take some dimensions? I'm going to be heading out to a Raw metal shop for my video cam tank mount, maybe i can find some aluminum blocks to work with and see if it's worth the hassle.

As for the color, I suppose you could just spray paint it black again.

I may look at powder coating them again, but really the blackish bronze doesn't look 1/2 bad lol... adds a little bling to the red bike!

The black PC doesn't get that way, is the anodize aluminum the one that change colors.

JR is right. Powder coat is polyester based and is quite thick. Those mirror extenders are anodized to retain the dimensions to keep from being too thick in areas which may make them difficult to install/mount. Anodizing aluminum is actually a process to create a sacrificial layer for corrosion. When exposed to regular heat, it will discolor and eventually (over an extended period of time) wear off completely. It's also much easier to anodize than powder coat.

Powder coat will chip or scratch but won't wear off.

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about the model that has two joints. I'm looking at the one that is just a nicely shaped stand-off.

I bought some of these also... I plan to install them this weekend when it isn't as cold out (will need to nudify the bike to get the nose off, and I plan to add yellow-toned headlight bulbs at the same time since I'm working in there already).
