Chat?

I hate being that guy who makes a thread for a quick question. The amount of users on at one time seem to enough , that if we had a chat integrated into the top of the home page, it would be beneficial.
Only negative effects I noticed on 2 other forums of mine, is the loss of good info. Some times info shared in chats WOULD make a good thread but again , just helps clear up over 300 threads on the same topic. Ex: searching for levers or clip ons netted me a lot of results lol

I noticed Vbulletin and if I can post http://www.gr*ndprixforums.net there is an example. (Add an A )

Just a thought. No biggie

There is a FB chat, the info is floating around here somewhere.

Nope just an active mini chat box ontop of the main page. Lots of forums are using it lately and figured it could be beneficial here. Stop in , ask a quick question or hang out and chat etc
I don't do Facebook

I would list my other car forums but they are not v bulletin format, just the forum listed in my first post is.

I know what feature you are referring too. I think it would be a GREAT addition to the forum, it would allow members to get to know each other better without having to create a thread. Also it would be more of a relaxed environment than just PM'ing someone.

What do you think @Alex, would this be a feature that you would possibly consider doing in the future?

There isn't a great option for vB 3.X sites. I also like that all of the content people share here online is then searchable, where the unstructured chat feature would not be able to do so.

Yeah, I like that too, I can go back and re-read people's conversations, jokes, tips, information, etc. It's really nice.

The site I used to use it on had a disclaimer that the chat wasn't for asking questions, that's the forums job. People generally obeyed that rule. It was mainly used just for people to socialize and get to know one another.

It's a feature worth considering

and thats the biggest issue we have too
too many people discuss DIYs or other stuff that should be documented to help others

but mkost of the time it just keeps us shooting the **** and quick answers to avoid pointless thread clutter
