Chain Guide Wear
At 7500 miles I took a good luck at the chain guide (rubber pad on top of the front of the swingarm where chain rubs). Has anyone had to replace it? Mine looks ok, but didn't have a lower mile bike near by to compare to.

Mine has been worn for as long as I can remember (currently at 12K miles).
What does this thing do anyways, other than keep the chain off the swingarm. |

The front of the swingarm on the chain side (left) has a rubber pad on top of it. That is due to the location of the pivot point of the swingarm vs the front sprocket. At times the chain rubs the front of the swingarm. The pad is there to take the wear rather than the swingarm taking the wear. Will have to take a pic.

thanks for posting the pics. should be slight wear as the chain will touch it from time to time (letting off the throttle, travel of rear suspension). that ridge through me off first time i checked it.

Just to clarify.... although we are talking about the "chain guide," it's name is a little misleading in that it's function isn't actually to "guide" the chain, but rather serve as a buffer or protection to both the chain and swing-arm from coming into direct contact with each other due to deceleration/suspension movement, etc. Is this correct?

exactly. i think swingarm guard makes more sense for a name. the dirtbike above with the aluminum swingarm would be slowly "chainsawed" over time if not for the plastic guard.

Almost 7k miles on my bike and the guide shows no wear at all. I keep my chain tension on the tighter end of the tolerance.
