Kickstand issues?

Anyone else experience any problems with their kickstand/kickstand springs? Happened to me tonight when I was shifting up. Felt my toe get stuck on something then a second later the bike died on me. Apparently the kickstand spring came off and when it swung down it killed the engine... Good to know my kickstand switch works but it would've been better to have a spring that stays in place!

So when I was putting it back on I noticed how flimsy it is!!! The upper hook for the spring is BARELY connected and right at the edge of the holder! So when the stand is up, I can shift the spring around and remove it with my fingers and minimal force! Or is it just mine that is loose now that it has come off once? Either way it might warrant a trip to the dealership.

Here's a pic

I'll take a peek at mine, but it does sound like there's an issue with yours at this point. It certainly shouldn't pop off that easily, as you found out it kills the engine immediately which can be mildly or seriously problematic depending where the bike is at the time.

Just an update - I rode all day today and it stayed on for low and high speeds... I'm just really conscious about tapping it with my foot...

but seriously.. noone else has had this issue? Can anyone just try tugging on their spring to see if it'll move/come off (when the stand is up)? If it does come off, it's not hard to get it back on... which is also a testament as to how easy mine can come off...

I don't see how it could be a problem if you're riding with the balls of your feet on the pegs like you're supposed to. Perhaps you just need to adjust your foot position a bit.

What is the purpose of that safety switch? And is there a way to bypass it/is it recommended to bypass it? On my other bikes I would start it with it on it's stands to let it warm up a little while putting on my jacket/helmet/gloves, or do these bikes not need to be warmed up that much?

Really newb question from a guy who hasn't actually even riden his bike yet (still fixing it up)

Too many people crashing because they didn't remember to retract the stand when they started out. If you leave it down it will act as a pivot point in a left turn and can throw you off the bike. Obviously someone who "forgot" was hurt and sued a bike manufacturer and now they all just want to protect themselves from further lawsuits.

I haven't had any problems.

Also I don't know why you would want to bypass the switch. It is only a safety thing and it has nothing to do with performance. I personally wouldn't want to forget about my stand and be able to ride off. There is never any need to have your stand down when the bike is in gear and the engine runs fine in nuetral with the stand down.

Why would you want to bypass the switch?

The problem isn't riding position, like I said in the post it was when I was shifting. The woodcraft rearsets bring the shifter in closer to the bike and the stand spring is just a bit lower... it seems that another tap from the foot or even a pothole might dislodge it. That's what I'm trying to warn people about and see if anyone else has had a problem...

Oh ok, I didn't know that it was bypassed when in neutral. Haven't tried it. Bike would not start when I first brought it home.....thought that was the reason. Took it apart to repair it so I'm sure I'll notice something else eventually
