Air filter now or later?

Ok, so I was just ordering some items online, oil filter, oil, maxima chain wax, and thought I would throw in a K&N air filter...

Is it worth installing now? Do I need to get anything else first? I do plan on getting the AreaP exhaust and jet kit, but that is way way later... last on my list really because of the price...

Do I need to shim the needles, remove snorkel or any of that to make the most of the air filter?

I kinda want to do all the little things first, and get the exhaust last

If it really doesn't do any good, I'll just wait.

the K&N will most likely make your lean running bike run just a bit more lean. I'd suggest doing your bike in stages.

filter, desnorkel and shim now.

exhaust and jet kit (or add 1 or 2 more shims) when you get it at that later date.

the K&N R-0990 in your sig... is that different from a factory replacement filter since you removed the airbox? i planned on ordering from motorcycle-superstore.com
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...ir-Filter.aspx

is this the same? $55 seems a bit high

the R0990 filter is a direct bolt onto the back of the carbs after you remove the airbox. If you still have your airbox, you want the factory replacement filter so you can install it into your stock airbox.

pic of 0990 filter...
