Pregen 2007 Mini Fairing Mod

I have always liked Ninja 250s, but I have never been thrilled with all of the plastic fairing crap all over the bike. I prefer the old school naked look myself.

I just bought a much abused 2007 Ninja F-Series 250. Much of the plastic fairing pieces had been cracked or damaged by the previous young owners. I had thought about removing all of the fairing pieces and converting it to a Streetfighter/Naked style, but I didn't want to spend the money for a new instrument cluster and for a new headlight and mounting bracket.

I did like the small windshield to reduce the wind on the rider. So, I decided to go toward the old style mini fairing using the existing upper fairing piece. The top fairing piece still required a little epoxy repair in a place or two.

Let me know what you think of the mod.

Welcome,

That looks pretty good to me. Looks kind of like the early Bandit 1200's.

Thank you VaFish. The mod covers up the gas tank bolt holes that we see on Naked Ninjettes.

Just a trim job really, but I'm pretty happy with it.

My first post. I like the place.

Ha,ha! I must be dating myself because I really like that style(I'm 65 years old.). I have never seen those pictures before. Thank you!

Personally, it seems to be a much cleaner style to me. I am a big fan of simplicity.

It certainly makes getting to engine parts easier.

Thank you Hernan. I look forward to meeting everyone here.

I am simply amazed how little the Ninja 250 has changed over the years!

Headlight, front shocks, engine appearance, frame, brakes, almost everything.

It's like they just covered up a much older bike with a lot of plastic!

But, don't get me wrong. If it works, don't change it! Again, I like things that just work well and are easy to work on.

The rock solid engineering reminds me a lot of the old 1970s Honda CB series. With cool plastic and graphics covering it. *grin*

Thanks. And so do I! I couldn't afford a new 300 and I wanted something I could modify without worrying about the price of the bike.

I must admit the real reason for this mod was because of the lower fairing being in such bad shape when I bought the bike. But, I am quite happy with the way it turned out.

It seems that so far all I have been doing besides riding it is taking parts off, passenger pegs, lower fairing mounting hardware.

I'm suspect that some time in the future I will modify the side plastic also and sooner or later move to a naked bike altogether.

Thanks again.

I think they look best with most of the plastic removed, but I realize my opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

It looks better like that than with broken parts that's for sure. Never been much of a fan of naked bikes... Everyone is allowed their own opinions though

Johnny, I bet you're not as ancient as I am. When I got into motorcycles, they were naked, and if you wanted a fairing, you had to buy one and make it fit. Nudity is good. (58 here)

Nice. Kinda reminds me of an old riding buddy's BMW F800S that he ran with the lowers off.

I've found that ABS glue works the best. You can pick it up at most hardware or building supply stores.

Unsurprisingly, it also looks a lot like the early EX500 without the lower fairing.

That's amazing!

Not that it's your first motorcycle, or that you still have it, but the fact that you survived owning a H2 as your first motorcycle!

(I'm ancient as well, and a RD400 was my first streetbike.)

You're right, but I was very aware of what it was and what it could do, so I was generally careful with it. I did my share of playing around on it though, so that's why I said you're right. I crashed it twice, but it was due to inattentiveness on my part, not power/speed. That's why I'm so pro-safety when it comes to riding. A couple seconds of looking at a GPS display, or staring at a car in a mirror, or just trusting that a car won't pull in front of you can end your life.

Have you tried plastic welding?

I've had pretty good luck with some ABS rods and a flat tipped soldering iron.
