Registering out of state motorcycle in California ?

Are the new gen ninjas 50 state certified for smog ?
do I need to have 7500 miles on it to be able to register it in California?

I found this California dmv link :
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures...cts/ffvr29.htm

I did some googling and found varying answers that contradict the link above.
Can someone who has registered out of state motorcycle in Californai help me here plz.
Thanks

Edit : This is for buying a new/used vehicle from out of Ca.

No, ninjette's aren't 50-state bikes. There are standard versions and California versions. So if a used one is brought in from out of state, it does have to have 7500+ miles on it before it can be legally registered.

You could always, um, replace your broken instruments with one from eBay that, um, might have more than 7500 miles on it, just to, you know, get it registered.

Richard, I like the way you think. Brought a "used" R-50 into the US many years ago in a similar fashion.

I think he already bought his bike, but just as an FYI, I didn't have to bring my bike in to get it registered in CA. Maybe the previous owner can just write in a higher mileage on the title when he signs it over? Maybe someone who bought a bike outside the state can chime in their experience. Save some money vs changing a gauge.

Yep..I already bought a 250 in cali itself.
but writing a higher mileage than 7500 on the title makes sense since that way you wont have to bring in the bike for any inspection.Plus if you are doing the title transfer through AAA it doubt that they will even be nitpicky about these details leave alone odometer inspection.
someone who bought a bike outside CA,plz let us know your experience.

The DMV looks at the bike itself when you register it, and confirms the mileage. They also check the engine numbers, which can be a pain in the neck if it's not easily visible.

Hey guys,

So I might move to San Francisco for a job in the next few months. My ninjette is not a California specific model and has 8200 miles on it (and I plan on riding from MO to CA during the move). I am assuming I would be able to get it registered in California based on the mileage. Does anybody have any experience / tips about registering a non-California bike in California?

Thanks!

When I bought my jeep for $3000 the PO wrote down $500 on the title. The DMV agent didn't even bat an eye.

You're fine. It will be no problem to register the bike, and you will need to make no changes. The 7500 mile minimum (which you meet anyway), is for California residents buying a bike/car out of state. If someone is moving to California for the first time and bringing their used vehicles with them, the 7500 mile minimum isn't required.

Here in VA it doesn't matter what you write on the title, they tax you on fair market value, unless it is a gift from a family member. I bought a truck for $600 at an auction, they didn't care that I had a receipt, they said FMV was $2500 and taxed me at that.

In Indiana they tax you on what was written on the title. I was hardly taxed at all when I got plates.
