If you're referring to the C_T thread I linked to, the others understand the sarcasm because we all know each other and recognize each others' personal demented sense of humour. If you mean the sarcasm coming from the drunk guy, you're partly right there, most often I didn't have a clue except when it was aimed at me. Then it was harmless, sticks and stones.

If you mean here?? I don't see it but I'm a newbie so I've still got about 30 days worth of reading to clue in. Working on it.

Yeah, no you don't understand.
I don't mean in this thread or what link you're referring to.
I'm talking about if you read some of the threads and the replies you'll see what I mean...that is if you understand the sarcasm.
Too some people sarcasm and the art of rude hints ESPECIALLY over text is impossible to determine.

Okay, I gotcha now. Mean-style sarcasm has no place on forums like this. Sometimes we forget that text does not include our facial expressions and the smileys don't supply a clear 'sarcasm' face. Maybe the people that use it like a weapon don't really have anything constructive to say?

Agreed. I don't know. Sometimes it's just not needed.
I find the best is when everyone understand each other.

Also sometimes some heated replies might be caused by that replier having a bad day...can't blame them all the time.

Yup, sometimes people could use a break when they flip out and turn around and own up to it. No one's perfect.

I try to use The Grandmother Principle.
Speak to and treat people like your Grandmother was standing beside you

Keeps me in line - mostly.

Punk ass rockers can be polite. Look at Henry Rollins.
Actually if my grandma could have expressed herself more freely, she probably would have been a goth. She always seemed to be checking out my leathers and admired the fact that I didn't need to separate blacks and whites..

heheh, you guys and your grannies.

Let me make up a new rule then to accommodate the fact that we all have various gramma-types..

"I try to use The Fairy Grandmother Principle.
Speak to and treat people like your Fairy Grandmother was standing beside you."

Fairy Grandmothers give you new gear and tires and sprockets so you HAVE to be nice when they are around.

That's my New Principle and I'm sticking to it. At least until someone pokes a hole in it.

ps. re swearing grannies - You can still be f-ing sweet while being colourful. :-)

T, that is a great analogy and a very good one to live by not only on the forums but in our every day lives.

It's amazing what a wee bit of kindness can do.
I always notice that when someone lets another person into a lane in traffic, you later see them do it for someone else. Same for 'silly' things like opening doors etc. That little effort is contagious.
