Where to buy stuff

With every bike I have owned, I have always been able to find one or two places that carried all sorts of great stuff for that bike. When I search for my 2005 ninja, all I seem to get is places that carry a few parts, but mostly have “ universal” parts that you may be able to make work.

I can’t belive what they want for mufflers and I can seem to find any flush mount front turn signals for my bike

For accessories, nothing beats eBay. I think I paid $50 30-years ago for the original Lockhart Philips flush-mount lights.

How old have your past bikes been?

13 years is a long time. Getting on to the point where a vehicle has to be considered a classic to support an aftermarket. (e.g. 60s Ford Mustangs, etc.) Given that it was an entry level bike to begin with, there probably isn't a lot of money to be made in continuing to provide parts and accessories specifically for it.

You figure we would get more parts, but Asia cornered the market on the lil bikes, an they don't advertise much in the states (and it's hard to read their websites an complete orders)

Feel so stupid searching for gen 1 parts

So we came across an add for a full set of fairing panels unpainted for under $200. I think that would be cool, paint up new plastic and swap out when done. But then I see it for the gen 2 and ofcourse ours is a 2005.

So I start searching for a fairing kit for the 2005

And I find about a thousand choices for the gen 2

Is there no where that has goodies for the gen 1? I’m assuming anything befor 2008 can be called gen1

Gen-1 might be considered original '83-85 Gpz-250?
Gen-2 is '86-87 models we finally got here.

1988-2007 models are typically called pre-gens and 2008-2012 are new-gens.

You can assemble bodywork piece by piece with used parts from fleabay, but that can get costly for entire set.

Only supplier of new bodywork for pre-gens are these guys: http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/...2501988-06.htm

Thanks!

After watching a few YouTube vids, I think I’ll try fixing it first. The ABS fix kit from Quarical Products looks the easiest so thinking we will try that.

I found that they do make a 2K paint in satin black, which is what he wants, so with the proper primer, that should work. In the past, I have alway used the spray max 2K paint for the final coat because it will not be resolved by gas.

Spraymax 2K is excellent stuff. It's real pro paint. I thought this was your 250, but you said "what he wants". You working on it with you son or something? Just curious. I sort of share my 250 with my daughter.

Sorry, when I start working on bikes I tend to adopt them (G) this is actually my Sons bike. But it’s his first, and I am “helping” him work on it. This is the smallest bike I have ridden I about 60 years. But as he is getting ready to take his motorcycle test, I drive it down to the mall and he drives it around there. He’s just starting to drive n the road (with me following). Btw, he is an adult just never on a M/C before

Cool. How do you like riding it? I didn't think I wanted a small motorcycle until a few years ago when a friend made me try his Yamaha 100 on the Dragon. I immediately set one up for myself, just for that road, and didn't hesitate to get a Ninja 250 when my Daughter needed something to ride. I ride it as much or more than she does. Small bikes are great fun, especially in the twisties.

My biggest issue is riding position. I had multiple operations on my left knee, and it is hard for me to down shift. (I can go up thru the gears justfine). Also, it is sprung way to light. I use the front break all the time, and the soft springs and heavy front break use makes for alessthen comfortable ride for me. Frankly, my only real comparison is totally unfair. My last little bike was the Yamaha 350 two stroke. Of course like any “my bike” I had built the crap out of it. That included custom works shocks set up for my weight and riding style and reworked forks. I won’t go into all the mods, but about the only thing stock on the bike were the side covers that said Yamaha on them. Also painted yellow and black and made it a “ Kenny Roberts” special. Only thing I hated was the sound of the expansion chambers. At about 6500 you had to work to keep the front end on the ground.

So like I say, not fair to compare. But on its own, I think it’s a cool little moped. ( just kidding). It really is a great little bike. Just wish it had a gear display. Every time I get on the bike I chant “ 5000 at 40 and it in 6th”

I've used the cheap harbor freight plastic welding soldering iron and ABS filler rods with good success on a couple of Ninja 250's.
