CBR600 STEELIE First track bike?

So there's this stupid 400cc minimum rule at my track. I'm forced to buy a bigger bike if i want to do track days, so im looking at older, cheap bikes for my first track bike.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CBR6...#ht_310wt_1070

I really like the cbr600's , from what i've read, these make an excelent first track bike and at this price im on the verge of putting a deposit on it. Will need a little bit of work but im willing. Itching to do a track day.

Is this a good buy or should i keep looking?

Thanks Guys

What track/organization has minimum restrictions? Unless its at road America or some very large track with huge mix of speeds, it doesn't make sense. The faster more experience riders can negotiate the difference of their speed to others.

Im not sure what the conversion is to the dollar, but it seems to be fair priced as long as mechanical components are good. The tank badly dented and rest of damage doesn't matter as long as tank holds fuel. Just starting track days, hope not to crash, but plan for it. An already busted up bike is a good start for track days.

Is that an F3?! I'm a big fan of those. Great all around bikes with good midrange as long as they're jetted correctly. Great bikes.

Any old CBR will be a great track bike, with F3s being the best and F2s being nearly as good as they can accept all the same chassis pieces as the F3s. The F1s may also be able to take advantage of that as well I don't know as much about them, but I believe in 89 they got shim under bucket heads and 5 more hp so that would be more desirable than an 87/88. You might also be able to find an F4/F4i crashed up for cheap which would be even better than a steel framed one.

The CBR600 comes in many forms.. CBR600 F2, CBR600 F3, F4, F4i and RR.

The F4i is the first fuel-injected model which was made in 2001-2006. The F2, F3, and F4 are carbureted bikes. The RR is the 'supersport' with aggressive handlebar/seating position and upgraded suspension and a few other things.

If I were you I would go with the F4i. They are cheap, reliable, very popular stunt and track bikes, they were made for 5 years almost exactly the same (01-02 have split-tail seat and 03+ has 'banana' tail seat) .. The older ones are a little harder to get parts for and have carburetors, in case you care about that. The RR are more expensive and the f4i will do just as well for track days. My 2 cents! Either way I think any of these bikes will do well but I'd go with the newest/fuel injected model.
