I set off to find out on Sunday but it was way too misty out, so I backed out. Really bad day to see how fast you can go. I couldn't see more than 4 car lengths ahead of myself.

Any idea how high you are?

Also - your bike is still pretty low on kms, might loosen up a bit over time and get more speed out of it.

---

I've got no idea what my top is Cruised pretty well at 140km/h indicated, although I needed a bit of a downhill to get to 160km/h.

I'll take it on the highway again sometime after I've done the 15000km service.
I'm about 100-150m above sea level (330-500 feet). Think removing the snorkel will make any difference?

My bike is currently at 3900 miles (6,300km).

I'm not experimental enough to know, but you might just get slightly more power.

Thing is, at 1700m where I am, you get about 20% less power due to the lower air pressure. I could most likely gain because the bike was designed to work with more air than I'm getting. It was not designed to get in say 10% more air than it would at sea level.

If the snorkel did not have a purpose, the designers would not have fitted it, so I'm a bit reluctant to remove it.

FWIW, I weigh 100 kg and have reached 162 km/h (gps verified, so some 175? indicated) on my Thai spec Ninja. Only mods have been the snorkel removal, Pirreli Dragon Supercorsas, and a Powercommander V. This happened on the Asian 1 north of Kamphaeng Phet while riding with a Versys.

I guess there are a lot of people going downhill while doing the top speed run :P. I'm going to find the highest hill on a long road and try the same tests lol!

With stock 14 /45 gearing the 13500 rpm rev limit will hit at 109 mph. So on a long 20% grade down hill that is where it will end. Please don't try to go down a hill as fast as you can. The suspension and brakes will not react well to suprises.

My first attempt it only got to 93MPH. Someone told me that tucking down makes a big difference, so on my second attempt I did and the needle touched 100MPH.

Further info:
* I was on a flat road (no incline)
* the wind speed was low.
* my bike has no performance mods
* it's a fuel injected bike
* stock tyres
* tyre pressure was set to the recommended levels (28psi front, 32psi rear)
* I wasn't using any power-ups

Am I the world's fastest squirrel now?

Very nice - What was the indicated speed when you hit real 100mph?

Sorry, forgot to mention. That was the indicated speed. I think my indicated speed is quite accurate though. Something about it having an electronic speed sensor.

I think the real difference is that you use the faster tyres, while we use the slower tires. Makes a difference!

I'm sure I'll be calling them "tires" without realising it before long. I'm constantly getting "wtf"-looks from British riders when I'm talking to them. I've picked up all these American biking terms in here that confuse my fellow trouser-wearing, rain-drenched, English peoples.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I wont be furthering my career as a speed-demon! It was a bit of a kick going that fast, but it's not that great. I like to ride for other reasons: the community, the learning experience, the excitement I get without even going above 50mph, the freedom and the beautiful ninjette!

That bobby can forcibly insert his fireblade up his bum! I'm the one the got away
