Yamaha has launched a new smartphone app that translates engine sounds into English, allowing you to understand what your motorcycle is “saying”.

The RevTranslator app (available for free for Android on Google Play and for Apple iOS device on the App Store) has been available for a while now in Japan, but now there’s an English version with more than 100 million different phrases.

Simply start the app, turn on your motorcycle and rev the engine. The app will then “translate” the revs to English. Of course, it should go without saying that you shouldn’t use your phone while riding, but we’ll say it anyway.

Sample translations include:

“How are you doing?
vroom? That’s just me humming.
Let’s get started.”

and:

“Oops! I don’t have enough time to eat lunch today.
Would you please go to the gas station we stopped at the other day? The fuel there was delicious.
Let’s get going.”

Using the app also earns points that can be used to unlock information about different Yamaha motorcycles.
