Colin Edwards to miss Valencia MotoGP due to injuries from Simoncelli crash

Surgery to repair cartilage damage on left arm rules American out of final race for Monster Tech 3 Yamaha teamAmerican Colin Edwards will be forced to miss the season-ending MotoGP race at Valencia, Spain next weekend due to upcoming surgery to repair cartilage damage to his left arm suffered during the unfortunate collision with the late Marco Simoncelli at Sepang last Sunday. Edwards was checked out by Dr. Henry Small at the University General Hospital in Houston, Texas, on Wednesday, where he was diagnosed with multiple small fractures to his left humerus (the upper arm bone), as well as cartilage damage at the tip. The cartilage needs to be reattached to the bone (cartilage prevents bone contact in the joints), which is where the immediate surgery to be performed next Tuesday is required.

Edwards feared that he might have fractures in both wrists, but luckily thorough checks revealed no fractures, just severe swelling in both areas and his right heel. His recovery period is scheduled to be four weeks, which also means he won’t be able to take part in the post-race tests at Valencia, where the 1000cc era MotoGP bikes will take part in official testing. Edwards will be riding for the NGM Forward Racing CRT (Claiming Rule Team) utilizing a BMW engine and Suter chassis, and both he and the team were scrambling to try and put everything together for the Valencia tests.
