Synch. carb setup hint

Last year I added a T fitting to the 2 vacuum lines that run from the carbs to the fuel switch, et. al. and capped off the open ports which were to attach to my synch guage when needed with rubber vacuum capoffs from AutoAdvance. A few months latter, hard starting got me checking things and found these caps had split..replaced them and same thing happened once more. Apparently there is enough gas fumes in these lines to deteriorate the Buna rubber. Made a set of cap offs from 1/8" ID fuel rubber line lengths and blocked the ends with RTV/plastic plugs and should prevent this from reoccurring.

I've noticed mine have also started to dry rot. Guess I'll know the first thing to check if I have any future "start" or "run" issues. Thanks for the heads up.

Afraid I eyeballed what size since i had an assortment of T-fittings and vacuum caps..did end up using the 1/8" ID fuel line though. Just out of curiousity, would it make any difference if I connected the 2 T-fitting open ports designated for sync. use together with a length of fuel line instead of capping them off separately ?

you mean like looping the ports together using a length of hose??? if so, that would work.

Yes, I was thinking that would work just as well as individually capping off the ports.

You can also use a piece of aluminum rod in the end with a small hose clamp. Leave enough of the rod sticking out to grab or even better, drill a small hole through the rod and slip a reusable cotter pin that locks around the diameter of the rod to keep it from being gradually sucked into the vacuum line...
