Automated Image Resize?

Alex what are your thoughts on this plugin?

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=237650

Functional example; http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showp...postcount=3104

I'd like the functionality. But we're on vbulletin 3.X, and it's for 4.X (completely different architectures; plug-ins are not compatible across both). Also - vBulletin introduced their own image resizing at some point during the 4.X versions, so I'm not clear why any add-on would be necessary, but we can cross that bridge when we get there.

No rush to upgrade the board to 4.X at this point, we'd lose much of the functionality that we already enjoy. Eventually I'll have to make that move, but it's not imminent.

That plugin has always caused havoc with animated GIFs. The resize algorithm is the kind that you must expand to see the detail (few people would make a needlessly large animate GIF) and they bounce back to the small size each time it loops (many animated GIFs are on a tight loop) which is usually before you could even scroll to fit or center it on your screen.

It should stay expanded if I click the title to expand and I am against implementing it until it does.

There are a few different ways to do the resizing, and they do have pros and cons. I have seen some different plug-ins for the 3.X series, and have considered them in the past, but haven't done much testing on what they might break. I would want it to be seamless, and have no effect on images that are below the size that would require resizing, and I would want it to work on most browsers that people use to visit here; some of the tools only work well on the very latest browser versions.

People should only be using the most updated version of their browsers for compatibility and security reasons.

Yes, but not every "old browser" is a computer capable of running a modern browser. Nintendo Wii Opera, Playstation Portable, Playstation 3, Nintendo DS Opera Browser, tablets and phones that stopped getting updates, etc.

No argument from me. And in general, people are pretty good about running current versions, no doubt assisted by the auto-update that the major browser vendors have started including as default. But there are still a minority of users here that do use older versions. (firefox 3.6, IE 6, etc.). The number is small, but not as close to zero as I'd prefer.

Yup, those are some examples of the outliers that still make up a portion of our users.

Ok guys I found a solution to my large image problem on this site as well as others.

If your a google chrome user you can add the stylish extension. And then add this code in a style. Give it any name you want.

Code:
div[id^="post_message_"] img:not(.inlineimg) {
max-width: 700px;
cursor: pointer;
display:block
}

div[id^="post_message_"] img:not(.inlineimg):hover {
max-width: 100000px;
display:block
}
or all automatically with the following links

Pull down the settings menu to "about google chrome". It will confirm it is up to date or prompt an update.

Chone - you're one of those outliers. For some reason your chrome is slightly broken, and has not been able to update for quite awhile. Fortunately, it's easy to fix. Go into your control panel and pull up Programs (can be named several different things depending on your version of OS), but find the list of programs. Uninstall Chrome.

Then with whatever browser you have left, just go to:

www.google.com/chrome

and install it. You'll be up and running in 30 seconds.

Thanks Alex. I'll go make sure I still have internete explorer before I delete Chrome.

If it moves, I can understand it. If I can take it apart, I can tinker with it and get it working again, but I'm really not a big computer person

EDIT for you two tech nerds (you know who you are ):
I made it! I have new Chrome now. It's weird. Very similar to iTunes in a way. I like how it looks; nice, clean, and neat.

But my bookmarks aren't here unless I'm on a new tab! and what's with everyone calling things "apps" now?? It's a damn program, not an app. Sheesh. So confusing.

and my plug-in for making my screen dark whilst viewing Youtube videos is no longer here. I need to go find that at the store again...

Resize photos

@Alex

Is it possible to have images that are linked to here resize large images to a maximum size, with a banner at the top to view at full size?

There are quite a few very large photos on the forum which have to be scrolled across or have the zoom on my browser adjusted to see them fully.

I've copied this section from a different site running Vbulletin, you may be able to make some sense of it

Quote:
<table class="ncode_imageresizer_warning" id="ncode_imageresizer_warning_1" width="800"><tbody><tr><td width="20" class="td1"><img src="http://www.biker.ie/forum/images/statusicon/wol_error.gif" width="16" height="16" alt="" border="0"></td><td class="td2">Click this bar to view the small image.</td></tr></tbody></table>
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v229/steve7h/CBX/DSCN3621.jpg" border="0" alt="" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" id="ncode_imageresizer_container_1" height="599" width="800" class="ncode_imageresizer_original">
