[visordown.com] - MAG Please buy this pop record

THE Motorcycle Action Group is urging bikers, and in fact everyone, to buy a pop record.

The motorcycle lobby group says it stands to make tens of thousands of pounds for campaigning activities if ‘It means so much’ by Stranger makes the charts.

A deal with the record label guarantees MAG all profits from two of Stranger’s concerts to be held later this year.

MAG, which recently lost an employment tribunal, is so keen for the single to sell 45,000 copies it is appealing to non-motorcyclists to buy it.

The riders' rights group is urging its members to get three people to download the 79p single buy May 4.

Stranger’s Nikki Murray has also promised to give away a guitar to one Facebook user who ‘likes’ his page.

Former Lib Dem MP Lembit Öpik, who became MAG’s communications director in November, said: ‘This is our chance to get the voice of MAG out there to a whole new generation of riders. We’ve got till the 4th May to make the charts!’

In an email to MAG members, Öpik said: ‘This really matters because if we sell 45,000 copies by 4th May, it will be in the charts and this will raise tens of thousands of pounds for MAG campaigning activity. Most of this comes from the concerts which follow the chart – as the record label have PROMISED us, contractually, all profits from TWO CONCERTS this year. That’s where the big money is, as well as future releases. They need it to chart for the artist. We need it to chart for money and profile.’

In a similar email, MAG President Ian Mutch told members: 'This text is designed to appeal to non-bikers as well as bikers so please send it absolutely everywhere. We only have a fortnight to make this work folks…

‘Sick of the nanny state? Weary of the Health and Safety Culture sucking the spirit out of the nation? MAG is a bikers' organisation but we carry a torch for everyone who thinks the way we do about the interfering busy bodies of the nanny state.

‘Now MAG is promoting a new single release which will bring us huge income to finance our work if it charts. We have two weeks to hit 45,000 sales.’
