NevadaWolf send off ride

Saturday morning I rode from Stockton, CA to Minden, NV for the chance to ride with NevadaWolf on the first day of her transcontinental loop of the U.S.A. Here is a map of my 374 mile day in the mountains:

Nice, cool day at altitude. Going east on Hwy 88.

Meeting up with NevadaWolf.

We rode south to Bridgeport, CA on 395. A couple of hours down the road, NevadaWolf continues on to San Diego and I backtrack to Hwy 108 and head west.

Best of luck to NevadaWolf on her epic trip around the country!

On Hwy 395, I hit an insect version of a meteor storm, a swarm of grasshoppers. I must have taken out a couple of hundred! Eventually I approach the very tops of the mountains. There is still a little snow to be seen.

The summit! A German tourist volunteers to photograph the moment.

If you have never tried it, the Ninjette does OK at high altitude. There is less power available, but there is still enough to get the job done. Thank heavens for constant velocity carburetors!

I still look like a dork... And even more so with the shades down. Ugh!

I am glad for the company and happy you made it home ok. Thanks for bringing the bunny for a fun send off as well!

The lack of power at high altitudes was kind of a shock the first time though.
Looks like you're kicking ass out there, Teri!

Looks like it was a fun ride!

High elevation is a bit unsettling. You roll on the throttle and the power just isn't there.

Quote:
For every 1k feet above sea level, you lose 3% of your available power. I don't know what the elevation there is, but at 5k feet above sea level, your bike is performing at 15% of what it normally does. 10k feet above sea level, and your bike is producing 30% of what it normally does. Ride safe!
