Since flipping my Ninja for an $1150 profit, I had some change laying around and found another sweet deal.
I'm prolly not gonna keep this one long either... might try and make a few bucks on it. But it's nice and only has 3400 miles on it.
I've read the 2007 and 2008s are the years to get for this bike and I like it, though position is very aggressive.

I agree with ya on the color choice. Red and black is a great Honda color.
I'm the same way with my Yamaha's. All 5 of the ones I've had have been blue. Not quite old enough to experience the red/white scheme or the yellow/black.
Seems Yamaha's are blue, Honda's are red, Kawasaki's are green, Suzuki's are yellow (as least dirt bikes), and KTM's are orange.

That color scheme is one of my favorites on the RR. Love it.

Yeah, the 08 red/black theme + a hyperflo dual can exhaust with integrated tail light, flush mount blinkers, upgraded mirrors, gps mount, red underglow, red rims, shorty levers, heat shield delete, all silver (pegs, brackets) painted black, heated grips, and a seat cowl and the bike would be perfect... Probably gonna run me 10k when all is said and done, completely worth it though.

Wow, I've never seen that scheme on it before, looks awesome. 07/08 has the best "wing" design on the fairings, imo. Very slick.

White and black is always my go to and looks great on just about every bike. If they had the Ninja 1000 in that color for 2011 i would have bought it, but instead i have red/black.

My 250 is white black, and the ducati is white black too.

This is better.... two Yamaha's in the stable now.

2008 R1... last year of the 16 valve motor before the crossplane stuff.
Definitely feels different than my 20 valve FZ1.

Nothing really. I just got it at a really great price and had every intention of flipping it. I did make a couple bucks on it which was the intention.

be patient, buy cheap then sell at actual value.

also being a decent mechanic helps. You get the occasional "not running" bike that just needs a carb clean, a battery, and some tires.

I can't see how it's possible to flip for a profit. Well, more like, why go through all the hassle.

I guess the only way to actually make a profit is to not get the bike titled in your name.

Sure.... buy a bike cheaper than what ya sell for it.

Seriously though... be patient, find a guy that wants to sell his bike and doesn't know much about it. Buy in winter and sell in spring helps.
Buy from small cities where turnover of bikes is slow so prices are cheaper and sell in large cities... might require some commuting.

Don't be greedy.... sometimes you'll only make $300-500 on one. Profit is profit really.

I rode the CBR about 30 miles. I strip them down, clean them and make sure they are in perfect mechanical condition. I'm certain that I have a clear conscious when I sell them knowing they are good machines.

Sound advice.. I've always wanted to do that sort of thing.. 1, it's an opportunity to truly experience other bikes without going broke, and 2, it's a potential way to make a little side money! Plus, wrenching and cleaning is always very rewarding

It really is a good opportunity to learn a lot about other makes and models. I keep all my vehicles up to date so I get bored of not tinkering around with anything. It's also instant gratification seeing a dirty bike cleaned up and looking nearly new.
The extra money is just a bonus. If I charged myself labor, I'd prolly loose money as I strip the bike down. I take everything out short of the engine and subframe.

Married with a 14 month old daughter, in the Air Force and maybe addicted to coffee. I just have a VERY understanding wife and I do most of my work after baby goes to bed. sometimes my daughter is out in the garage "helping out". I just gotta be sure to put all the hardware out of her reach. tools go missing but that's ok

Can you walk me through this flipping process? When you purchase the bike, you have a bill of sale (optional in some states) and the title.

Do you bring the title to the DMV to put it in your name? If you do, do you have to pay taxes on the purchase?

How about registration? Do you register the bike at the DMV?

I'm just curious when Uncle Sam wants his tax $$$$. Is it when the bike gets registered? Or is it when the title changes hands?

You have to check the restrictions in your state. Most states have a max number of Title transfers per year before you need to be a Dealer.

At the DMV in WI you pay the tax on the amount listed as "purchase price" on the back of the Title, plus a fee (think it's $70) to have the Title transferred to your name plus the cost of license plates ($28/2yr) if you are not transferring plates from another cycle.

In WI, if you have a Title that was signed and filled-out (as buyer) by someone other than yourself and you go to register it you will have to pay the previous taxes (and possibly the Title transfer fee) as well as the current taxes and fees to get a new Title in your name.

A friend had that happen when he went to Title a cycle he purchased that hadn't had the Title transferred by the previous owner, but had his name on the Title as "buyer".

yes, yes and sorta

So you absolutely need to put the title in your name which involves paying taxes on the purchase...BUT you can typically get the seller to write up a bill of sale saying anything you want. The trick is to make it at least somewhat reasonable as to not raise suspicion. So you buy an R1 for lets say $5k, on bill of sale you write it up for $3k and save a little cash on the taxes. You could say you paid $500 for it, but that just screams fraud and you run the risk of getting a visit or call. For the record I have never done anything like this

If you don't plan on riding the bike you don't have to get it registered, or tagged, and then no insurance so that would save some cash if you just plan on flipping it cuz you got a killer deal on it and have no interest in said vehicle. If you plan on riding it you will need to spend a little money on those things.

The trick in flipping is finding a motivated seller, someone that needs to sell for one reason or another to get whatever it is at a price low enough that you know you can sell it for a decent % more and that's after parts and labor if need be. Finding the right buyer just like finding the right seller is important. It's about seeing the value of the item not so much your desire to own it. Look up craigslist bartering stories, there are some pretty cool ones. People start with some junk worth $100, trade for X, trade X for Y, trade Y for a beat up Jeep, trade the Jeep for a R6

Find some guy with a nice expensive cruiser that he bought on a whim that he hates, he likes sportbikes a lot better and wants one. Trade him your $5k R1 for his $8k cruiser, then sell cruiser for $8k = profit

I was hoping they'll only make you pay the taxes when you register the bike....not when you transfer the title.
