Recycling used parts

I'm not too keen on throwing stuff away. From my bike, I have some used brake pads, a front and rear sprocket, a chain, and a crunched fairing.

I once made a sprocket clock out of an old bicycle sprocket. Maybe I'll do that again, but better. I also made a bike chain bracelet, but that was pretty uncomfortable, and I'll bet a 510 chain isn't much better.

Anyone got any ideas for some ways to turn this junk into something new? If not, most of it'll sit in my scrap metal pile until it gets big enough to go to a recycling plant, and that's not nearly as fun.

Take your favorite pic and get a cheap frame. Wrap the chain around the frame.

This thread has the potential to become really cool. A buddy of mine makes sculptures with old parts. I would like to see what others are doing as well.

Waste not, want not, isn't a bad way to think.

One of the boards that I belong to has a semi-annual mileage contest. I've been using bike parts to make up trophies for the winners. An old rotor or sprocket, a cam and a valve or two are pretty special when you assemble them with a little creativity.

Ride on,

J~
