There isn't enough power in the world for that. Ask any politician (thinking the last 3 presidents of the US).

You know you ride a ninja250 when:

You look for a clean pass, then start accelerating for the pass while the oncoming car is still 300 yards ahead in the opposing lane.

You dip down into the most aerodynamic position at the slightest gust of wind.

You grease the street before doing a burn-out. (sarcasm).

You alter your route depending on how heavy your passenger is.

Someone should tell the fine people at Triumph, my 675 is in that ballpark with a 2nd gear roll on.

Your 750 should do it in 2nd, try an overtake

I think what they were getting at was last-gear roll-on, though, wasn't it?

I gave a reasonable real world answer.

To put it another way:

The ability to turn the car in front of you into an obstacle between you and the idiot that was behind you in very short order is enough power to get you out of trouble.

No, at least I wasn't.

If you're on a mid power machine, doing anything other than cruising down the motorway looking to use minimal fuel then you're not in 6th gear, and if you're doing a roll on from 40 to 'get out of trouble' in 6th then you're doing something very wrong.

The stats use top gear to remove the variation in gearing that could skew the numbers, it gives a reasonable comparison from a thumper through to straight 6, but it's not the top acceleration available.

Okay, one more time.

I only posted the 6th gear, 60-80 numbers because they're published and therefore more than just me blowing smoke.

I never said the bike won't accelerate faster in a lower gear.
I never said that a 6th gear roll-on is a realistic scenario on the road.

Okay?

I still think it's unrealistic to get 40 mph of acceleration (40-80) in two seconds but as clearly stated, that's just a gut feeling. Please prove me wrong instead of just saying "gee, my bike will do that." Are you sure? Plunk a go-pro on your tank, point it at your speedo and do some roll-ons.

Okay?

Back to the 250 conversation, please.

Screw 2nd gear. I think a 750 will hit 80mph in 1st gear, no?

you know you own a 300 when: your insurance is less than $100 a year w/full coverage.

Wish that were true for me. Even when I had just a pregen 250 with minimum liability only, it was still a bit over $100 for the year. Nowhere near that cheap now that I have full coverage on a newer 300.

mine is a significant amount more than that...Not having insurance on it next year (if I go full track with it) will save me a significant amount of money. Ironically I could get a daytona 675 and pay half what I pay now in insurance

maxed out insurance, being a 22yo male, a few tickets (but 1 point on the board right now) being in MD on a "new" ninja 300 doesn't help

I bet mine is cheap because I can't go fast in the kitchen and I only get a few passes each to year.

you know you're on a 300 when you do a lap perfectly (per your normal skill level) except you miss a downshift and it costs you 3 seconds on that lap because of the time lost from being out of the powerband
