need to know carb hose routing 08+ 250

I'll preface this with the fact that Ive gone through the wiki and searched the forum before asking this ( i know it has to be some where but i havent been able to find it anywhere)

I'm looking for a picture that shows the correct hose routing for 08-12 250 carbs. Mostly I'd just like to check it off my list as far as getting the carbs done.

Ive seen a ton for the pre-gens, but none for the 08-12. Any help would be appreciated....

Nope no tank whistling. That said, when I bought the bike, the vaccum line back to the tank was routed to the right side carb down in between the two carbs....I’m guessing that’s not where that goes.

actually I think that vent line may be correct. There's picture of other side of carbs somewhere, let's see where it is...

Do you have CA model with a hose connecting to the T and going to a little valve above cylinder head?

Yeah it's a ca model but the Emissions stuff has been removed.

OK so you should have following:

1. T-fitting for CA emissions should capped
2. Vent line from tank should run behind carbs and dump around rear shock
3. Vent line between carbs at rear should also dump to back near rear shock

the T is capped, and the two vent lines are running where they should be. I'm trying to figure out the vacuum line routing on the carbs though.



This was the line i was talking about down in between the carbs that was running back to the petcock.

if memory serves me correct (and it does) ....the 2 vac lines between the carbs both attach to the decel valve.

The petcock is activated by a vac line to the LH carb vac barb (top, intake side)

Correct me if I'm wrong...just viewed your pic....your needle jets appear to be inserted from the venturi side?

Should inserted be from underneath the emulsion tube.

They appear to be "too tall"...projecting way too far into the venturi....revealing a definite assembly error

I'm not sure what the technical term for it is, but the brass sleeve right under the slide? I thought those only went in one way?

that IS the needle jet

*correct installation.....inserted UNDER the emulsion tube (aka main jet holder) from inside the carb bowl. The "open end" of the needle jet is inserted downward.

*incorrect installation....inserting them from the venturi side, which appears is your situation

If you've been having ongoing starting/running issues...therein may lie your root cause.

ok i get what youre saying now, i'll put them in from the carb bowl side and see what that does along with the correct hose routing. so, the emulsion tube actually holds those in place?

yes, after insertion just snug the emulsion tube down...not too loose, not gorilla either

Note that part# 16017, #6 jet needle can go in two ways. It should be installed so the tapered hole end is aimed up at the needle.

Sweet baby Jesus I think it runs. Idle hands a bit and I haven’t taken it for a test ride yet...but it runs in the on position now opposed to just in prime and it doesn’t bog when you rev it

just went for a quick spin around the block. revved smoothly, downshifted smoothly, only took it up to 35 but it seems like its running smoothly so far aside from the tiny hang at on its way back down to idle.

thank you guys for all the help, there is no way i could have got this done without the advice / step by steps.

now i just have to hunt down some tires that arent square....

I got the same problem, on september i post the same problem, and jack told me to check the vacuum of the petcock but how i don't have the special tool to check the vacuum, i buy a new petcock, and got the same problem, as i see the petcock is not the problem.

Also my ninja is not the "california" model

In the original site of the picture, they told me that picture is the carbs from the "F series"

that's why i don't use that picture :/

if you are not CA....use a continuous run of hose from the RH carb vac barb to the front position of decel valve. So basically as pictured without the T at the top.

Not shown in the pic...the 2 vac hoses between the carbs attach to the decel valve....1 small, 1 larger....self explanatory. Note you want these to be *tight*
on both ends.

Also not shown in pic....the vent hose (must be left unplugged, open to atmosphere, free to "breathe")

Sorry for the late reply but, The carbs look same like the picture, but some if you try to connect the "vacuum hose to the petcock" the hoses is more bigger from one side,

I can't dissarm the bike to reach the carbs until saturday, because i use the bike to go to the school and to work
This saturday i take a picture to show you how is connected my carbs (I hope u are online the saturday)

ps: the vacuum of the petcock is connected on the "T", and that "T" is connected to the vacuum switch valve and don't remember what other hose is connected.

This is correct location for petcock connection. Replace hose with one that fits both ends properly.

This is wrong. That's why your previous good petcock and the new one is not working. Remove hose from petcock and T. Cap the T. Connect correct hose to petcock.
