Can't Accelerate

Hey everyone,
I'm new to this site. I got my bike about a week ago. Got a pretty good deal on it. 1500 for 08 with only 1900 miles. The guy I bought it from dropped the bike in December of 08 and didn't ride it since. I picked it up from him last Saturday. I charged the battery as it was completely dead when I got it. I also just got the carbs cleaned 2 days ago from a mechanic. Before I got them done the bike wouldn't start without the choke and it wouldn't even idle without choke. When it did idle with choke it wouldn't go past 2000 RPM. I wasn't able to ride. Well after the carbs were cleaned I could ride but the only problem I'm having now is the bike won't accelerate. The RPM goes all the way up and the exhaust roars but I'm not really getting anywhere. The mechanic said my gas was bad because there was too much carb cleaner in it but I put new gas and I'm still having the same problem. Can anyone help? Maybe just let me know what's wrong with it and if I can fix it myself.

These bikes are "coldblooded" and will need the choke to start up first thing in the morning or with a cold engine. Apply it about 1/2 -3/2 of the way and if it starts, adjust it to about a 2500 rpm idle for a short time 'till it runs steady, then drive off at a moderate speed and let it warm up, slowly turning the choke off after a few minutes or a mile or so.
If the bike will rev up and won't accelerate then you have a different problem. You may have to change the oil and make sure there are no "friction modifiers" in it - your clutch may be slipping. Use a motorcycle specific oil, not automotive oil.

Ali, great user name. Sometimes members first post is an introduction, however; with a user name like that you don't need any introduction. It's all in the name.

You need a different mechanic.

Sounds like you're in neutral (green light on?)
Have you gotten it moving before? If it does this while in motion, your clutch plates are slipping. Try firmly shifting either up or down.

The bike is moving but it goes really slow and I know I'm not suppose to move so slow. Its not in neutral. It is moving and I can ride it but it just won't pick up like it's suppose to.

I warm it up with choke whenever I ride. I still have the same problem

You might be able to solve your problem if:
1.) We could understand what you are trying to say.
2.) You would read in full the suggestions you were given on here.
3.) In brief, again, to summarize - if the engine runs OK, like up to 8,000 rpm or so if you blip the throttle, and it runs smooth, and you shift into gear and you can still rev it up but the bike won't accelerate, then you have a slipping clutch problem as you were told. Either the wrong oil in the bike, or it is out of adjustment. And how fast do you want to accelerate? What speed does the bike get up to?
4.) Another suggestion, sell the bike back to the original owner.
5.) Have you any previous motorcycling experience? MSF course?

Your clutch may not be fully engaging then. Do you not have full power ever now or is it random? If you never have full power anymore, adjust your clutch cable (your mechanic should know this though).

Sorry I didn't explain it thoroughly. I got it checked. Turns out the mechanic that cleaned my carbs didn't tune them right. So now all I need to do is get the carbs tuned.

It doesn't matter how many times anyone tells him anything - he doesn't get it, doesn't want to listen, and I think my #4 suggestion was the best one yet.

lol man i really wanna see the updates on this from what im readings it a slippy clutch

let me put it like this

if the bike RPMS climb fast or normal in gear but the bike isnt accelerating then u have a slippery cluthc and not the carbs...

if u had in porperly tuned carbs the rpms would be just as slow as the acceleration or it wont climbs rpms..
