I'm a fat pig!!!
Got on the scale tonight for the first time in 14 months and was horrified to discover that I'm at 229 lbs!!! For reference, I was 207lbs at 15% body fat at a physical in Sept. 09. I've let myself go
The good news is that I've been this fat at least twice in my life. Once, I remember I was right at 230, but my Uncle sent me on an all expense paid trip to Southwest Asia and I came back at 173! Anyway, this new state of porkiness is downright disgusting. I will not allow myself to turn into a cubicle cow. Here are my goals: Jan 1 2011: <220lbs April 1 2011: <199.9 lbs To help myself keep track, I will try to update this thread every 7 days. Wish me luck. UPDATE 1 12/10/2010 - 228lbs OK, the last week and half or so has not gone according to plan. I had to go out of town for work for the majority of this last week. That wrecked my workout plan in certain ways. I managed to get some cardio in here and there while on the road, but its been inconsistent. I havent lifted in exactly a week and my body looks and feels like a tub of ****. My diet has been less than stellar due to eating crap while travelling. All in all, I've lost approximately 3/4 of a pound and have noticed a bit of upsurge in endurance and intensity while cardioing. While progress was miniscule this week, at least its a step in the right direction. Last futzed with by Too40gawlf; December 10th, 2010 at 08:23 PM. |

GL... with the Christmas holidays coming up, you'll be lucky to be only 220 on 01jan.
Wish you the best on attaining your goal... self improvement is always a worthy goal to target. |

Good luck, I have failed miserably to keep this up. Holidays and cold weather have screwed my cycling and running. I am looking on craigslist for a treadmill and trying to price a trainer. I cannot let all the work I do in the spring/summer continue to be useless over the winter months.
I shall look to your posts for personal inspiration as well. |

I got an idea Bro... I will be your virtual trainer, I'll send you a tailored workout routine every morning, 5 times a week (I'll give you two off days). In lieu of charging you exorbitant trainer fees, I'll accept your 07 ZX6R as payment. If this sounds good, PM me for shipping address (you pick up shipping). |

Lol, you know, there is a saying about baseball managers: The ones that make the best baseball managers where atrocious players. So maybe it holds true for trainers as well.

If you need to lose weight go to Mexico over Christmas and drink lots of water. You'll be 30 pounds lighter in no time.

For those of you that worry about gaining weight over the holidays.
Guess Ill rub a little salt in the wounds. I can eat ANYTHING and to excess and my weight varies by only 5 pounds. I counted calories once for a week, just to see what I consume in an average day. After a week of counting calories and dividing by 7. I took in over 4000 calories a day. Guess Im just lucky. Now at one point in my younger years I did weigh 20 pounds more. It took $60 a week (in the late 80's) in GNC supplements and weight gainer along with a high protein diet and months and months of weight lifting to get there. FYI just checked Im 139 clothed. There are a few of us out here who wish we could gain a few pounds. Im one of them. Good luck though I hope you reach your goal.

I used to be skinny (145lbs), then I got married (now 180). I don't know what happened. hahaha
Just need to start working out again. I cycle and run, just need to get some stuff set up for my workouts here. I hate driving to a gym to work out.

I found cycling trainers tedious. I like riding on rollers. It is just like road riding, except that you don't go anywhere--unless you lose concentration--in which case, the bike will come off the rollers and you will crash into a wall' or whatever is nearby. When you start, don't use your best bike. The nice thing about rollers is that you can shift gears, do time intervals, sprints, and just cruise along. You can't coast. I plan to be down to 175 from 200 by spring. If I also did not enjoy weight lifting, I could get down to 150. It's not a weight I feel comfortable at. My fighting weight has been 185.

treadmill bought and home today. The only thing that kills me about riding a bicycle indoors is having to gear up to get on the bike and ride. With the treadmill (even though I hate treadmills) I can roll out of bed, throw on a pair of mesh shorts and shoes and run for a 30-45 minutes, hop in the shower and get to work. With the bicycle it takes a bit more time and preparation to work out. I still want the trainer so I can ride for an hour or so on Sat., but the treadmill hopefully will get my aerobic work in 3 to 4 day a week before work at around 5 am (another reason I don't just run outside - its freaking pitch black out)

I know I've done a crap job of updating this thread and I havent been exactly consistently trying to lean out over the last few months. However, over the last week, I've loosely copied my boss's diet plan which was written for him by his coach. Since I do more intense cardio than the plan calls for, I think the results are a little amplified.
Anyway, weighed in today at 217 lbs. - obviously my previous goal of being sub 200 by April 1st is a huge failure. But Im going to set my sights on Labor Day. Gives me about a 100 days to drop about 20 pounts. About a 1.5lb a week works just right. I know my lifting strength is down just a bit, but if I can stay within about 5% of my peak strength and contniue to lean out, I'll be happy. |

when i had to get ready for military basic training, i ran every week day. rested my lower body and did heavy upper body training on the weekends. it worked
for just plainly losing weight, you don't really need any strenuous physical activity. eating right can do you good. do micromeals. i did 5 micro meals a day and never ate past 6pm. but that's just me, each one of us has a different metabolic rate so find out what's best for you. best of health to you!

I had to go on steroids to fix a medical condition last Spring. I went from 175 to 195(all fat) in about 3 weeks. I stayed that way all summer, because I wouldn't get serious about eating correctly and I hardly exercised. Granted, I had never been in shape my entire life.
I decided to get serious about my weight/health last Fall. I started out by going to the pool 4 days out of the week and swimming breast-stroke for 40 minutes. One thing I discovered is my appetite was a lot easier to control after working out. I **** you not, in the span of about 5 weeks I went from 190 to ~165 and bottomed out at 160 a couple weeks later. Because of time constraints, I had to stop swimming in December and I bought a Bowflex instead. I now weigh about 165 lbs, and the weight increase is largely due to muscle growth. I don't look like those guys on TV, but my body has definitely changed for the better. I mainly try to avoid carbs. I still eat a ton of red meat, with the occasional fish. I eat real butter, not margarine. My cholesterol is normal. I avoid alcohol, except on the weekends, and unless its a special occasion, I'll only have 1 or 2 drinks. Like sarapac said, everyone is different, if you are serious about it, you will eventually find whats right for you. |

Just got back from 2 weeks in China, where I ate street food day one and ended up sick as a dog (which I probably ate) for a week. Excellent weight loss technique. Lost as much in rider+bike weight as my change from stock to aftermarket exhaust. Trichinosis = faster lap times.

Fruits and vegetables (and only fruit and vegetables). You can eat as much as you want and not gain weight.
I just read you lose more weight lifting than you do during cardio. I'd go with the sex 3 to 5 times a day diet. NO ALCOHOL works well also.

I got back from hawaii and measured in at a sleek 229 lbs last night after my workout. Despite all of the kalua pig and cheesesteaks I ate in Waikiki, I managed to lose about 8 lbs.

I just started on a 100 day burn. I literally can no longer fit into any of my clothes. I weighed 143 pounds when I moved last year. I am now 175.
The worst part is that I am worried about completely outgrowing my riding gear. What happened to Too40gawlf's weekly update? I seem to have a bit of a problem with Thank god for all of them emoticons. That is the first thing to go.

So this is going to be my update post for the time being. I will go back and edit this post with weigh ins. I've decided to do official weigh ins on Thursdays and Sundays. Dont ask me why, its just what I've been doing the last couple of weeks. The only caveat is that Im using my home analog scale which shows a 2-3 discrepancy with the gym balance scales that Ive been using, but at the moment for consistency's sake,Im going with the home reading. Goal remains sub 200lbs by Labor Day. At the risk of gayness, I am going to try to include a weekly photo log to see if there is any visual progress.
WEIGH IN LOG: THU, 12 MAY - 220lbs SUN, 15 MAY - 217lbs THU, 19 MAY - 216 lbs SUN, 22 MAY - 216 lbs FRI, 27 MAY - 214 lbs MON, 30 MAY - 213 lbs THU, 2 JUN - 210 lbs SUN, 5 JUN - 209 lbs FRI, 10 JUN - 207 lbs THU, 16 JUN - 205 lbs PHOTO LOG Thursday, 19 MAY - 216 lbs Monday, 30 MAY - 213 lbs Thursday, 2 JUN - 210 lbs Sunday, 5 JUN - 209 lbs Friday, 10 JUN - 207 lbs Thursday, 16 JUN - 205 lbs Saturday, 16 JUL - 202 lbs GOALS FOR JUNE: A.) Run a cumulative 80 miles or greater - FAIL B.) Run a sub 20:00 3 mile - FAIL C.) Weigh in at 205 or less - ACHIEVE Last futzed with by Too40gawlf; July 16th, 2011 at 05:11 PM. On a serious note, keep it up! Having some public accountability sounds like a great idea to stay motivated. I may have to steal that idea to cut down on my flab. |

Weighed in today at slightly over 215 lbs, but the analog scale is hard to read. Imgoing to err on the side of caution and say 216. It was a little less than the previous 216 I had on Thursday.
Had a horrible Saturday - ate fries and a kit kat bar - didnt work out either lifting or cardio and drank like a fish on Friday. Today, I ate a Milky Way and McDonalds for lunch and snuck a few sips of Sunkist orange soda. However did some lifting and had an excellent run. My best in weeks if not months. This week is going to be hard. No lifting at least il Friday as Im going out of town for work. However, shoud be able to get some strenous running in and will try to adhere to the diet somewhat. Not likely a weigh in on Thursday, but depends on when I get in. |

Im a big proponent of Crossfit. I just keep falling off the wagon. As its too hard for me to lift, run, and do Crossfit all concurently. I can do 2 of the 3. But Ienjoy lifting a lot as its a stress reliever for me. However, to help with the weight reduction, Im going to start going back to the Crossfit gym next week after I get back from my work trip.
