engine surge

I have a 09 with a dynojet, with slip on, snorkel delete, k&n, and run full syn.
and 18000
I have started to notice as I ride I get engine surge on excel and de-excel, I pulled the clutch once to make sure it was not a bent rim or a flat spot in the tire, and I have also started to notice a little more back fire. so I was thinking it could need a valve adjustment or a carb sync could be a vacuum leak to.

I would very much like some other opinions.

Full synthetic oil and 18,000 miles? You're vague...

How long has it been since you last rode the bike? Do the carbs need to be cleaned?

A valve adjustment would be a good idea. They're likely tight, which would cause the bike to be a little less smooth. A carb synch is standard follow up to adjusting the valves. As for testing for leaks, that's not hard; just spray something flammable (WD40 works great) at parts of the intake and listen for if the idle jumps up a lot. If it does, you found a leak. But I would do the valve adjustment and carb synch first. I feel like that's the more likely cause of your surging.

Welcome to the forum. Post up in the new members section so we can all say hi

Your symptoms can be caused by a number of things but it maybe hard for anybody to diagnose with any degree of certainty given the limited information provided. A few things that may be affecting your bikes performance are;
temp, altitude, humidity, main jet size, a lean condition, incorrect fuel air mixture. When was that last time you had the valves adjusted or complete tune up on the bike? Also have you done the kleen air delete mod?

Question

You probably should have had the valves inspected/adjusted @ 15K miles.
The Kleen air delete may help with your backfire problem. http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=9948

Adjust the valves first seeing as they haven't been adjusted and you're at 18,000 miles. If the bike is still giving you issues, then try other things.

Taking off the Kleen system should fix your popping and backfiring.

If you're at 18k and haven't checked the valves, you should probably do it anyways.

I was thinking chain.. My chain stretched weird and it has a tight spot and can't be properly adjusted... Make sure its not stretched as such.. It will seem to surge..
