Straight or Curves?
Saw a poster the other day, which stated :
"Straights are for fast bikes. Turns are for fast riders." Is this statement true? Which one are you? A speed demon or a cornering king?

Corners. All the way. Is that even a question, who buys a ninja 250 to top it out in a straight line? I take that back, we all know exactly who does that. Sorry Eric

why not both?
if I could afford both I'd have both, but corners > straights

Copied from "Embracing the Mysterious Limits of Riding":
http://www.motorcycl...mits_of_riding/ "Making leaps of faith into the unknown by hoping the bike will do your biding often finds riders biting off more than they can chew." - Keith Code Not necessarily. You can master cornering at any speed. I just enjoy riding very much. Smelling the roses becomes more important when your days of riding are coming to an end.

Car or Bike, straight line = straight line. In the corners only a bike can do what a bike can do. Whilst there is an art to faster cornering in a car, its all to do with touch & feel.
On a bike there is so much more used to corner & so much more feedback, plus it can be exhilerating at any speed, where as in a car a corner has to be taken on the limit to get your blood flowing. For me fast corners are the place to be, but I like flip flop nagery chicanes too Abbey Curve at Silverstone or the Craner Curves at Donington Park are amazing 100mph plus corners, with the bike on its ear, yeah baby Last futzed with by Mohawk; March 30th, 2016 at 02:19 PM. |

If I'm going straight, it is just to get to the next corner.

Straights are easily had, but I seek out the corners. Luckily, I live in SoCal, where we have a lot of great canyons. Canyon-running actually was part of why I chose a little sportbike rather than something more cruiser-like. Not going for anything that's a real cruiser, I don't like having the pegs that far forward, but I did want something that could take canyons.
So count me in for corners and curves! |

straight line is what you are forced to ride...
... to get to the sweet, voluptuous, yummy, sexah curves. Tail of the Dragon 312 curves... you ever hear anyone talk about "the Shaft of the Arrow" 312 miles of straight?

I haven't had the opportunity to go very fast, but I will offer that I was grinding peg when taking the initial licensing class.

Both because you have to use the straights to get to the curves.

Is the statement true? Given how many fast bikes pull away from me in the straights then freaking park it in the corners, I'm going to say yes. Any fast bike can launch along a straight but a skilled rider can make any bike dance.
Which am I? Not a speed demon, I don't like going fast. Not a cornering king as I'm not the quickest through the curves and can easily get smoked by better riders. I'm a steady turtle, I pick a speed and stick with it in straights or curves. I find that more fun personally. I hate having to constantly brake and accelerate, that is exhausting. But smooth, steady, and consistent? Ohhh yeah!

I think I tend to be stable in my speed, too, but I do like it in the curves. I'm still figuring out how I ride....

I have managed to get acquainted with some idiots who love to ride too fast in straights overtaking everyone but braked like hell (even accidentally performed a stoppie because of braking too hard!) when enter corners. That will be the first and last experience for me riding with them.

If I could only choose one, it would be corners, but I don't think you can separate the two. What you do in one affects what you can/will/need to do in the other.
Yes, but she was not the sort of girl I'd take home to meet the parents.

I go fast out if a corner, slow down to the speed limit, and then speed back up to enter the corner.

I love to ride.
I prefer a road track the most, then quite curves, and least is the flat highway... All are better than driving and a little peaceful.
