Shifter shaft leaking

I took my bike to a shop and they told me that my shifter shaft is leaking. Is this a major issue that I should attend to right away? And is this going to cost me a lot of money to get fixed? All suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.

Eh, you'll lose some oil over time, but if it doesn't drip while sitting it's not a huge deal IMO. There's a seal and and a bearing that need to be replaced otherwise and to do that you need to pull the clutch cover and the clutch basket/clutch off so you can pull the shifter shaft out to begin with.

I am also cheap and lazy, so it is really just my 2 cents.

I noticed I have the same leak, but I have not done anything about it. First, it's because it's leaking very slowly, far from dripping. Second, like leed, I'm cheap and lazy.

Haha I'm not lazy, but cheap. I just don't want to **** up my clutch. The leak is slow, so it's not a huge concern. But I'd rather just take it to the shop, I'm more paranoid of ****ing up my clutch.

But thanks for the tips guys.

No real way that is messing up your clutch. The clutch is bathed in the engine oil. So as long as you check the oil level often you are fine.

I drip a week is fine, a drip an hour would be more of a problem.

he means messing up his clutch while disassembling or reassembling by trying to replace the seal himself .

Any way to just pop that seal out without pulling anything apart? I had mine apart but didn't really look at it that close. I'm pretty sure the main drive seal can be replaced without disassembly. Looked like it just pushed in. Not sure why the shift seal would be different.

Probably a small screwdriver and pry it out. You should be able to penetrate the rubber part and get behind it enough to get it out. I would certainly try that before taking the clutch apart. The only thing taking the clutch apart gets you is that you can maybe stick a smaller rod in there and beat the seal out from behind.
